I would agree about the quality of education at my son's school. Add to that the small class sizes, personal relationships with the staff and caring community feel, and I'd say parochial school is worth every penny (even if you're on a budget, like we are!)

KCLucymom is on a distinguished road
Victory Christian Academy is not in south city, but it is in south county and is the cheapest private school we have found. We tried it out and absolutely LOVE IT! The kids do not have to wear uniforms, so that's not an expense. The tuition I believe is $2900 for the first child. Check out their website. It's www.VCAcademy.org
