Check out Kirkwood
Suggest you check out Kirkwood--nice town, close to STL but not affected by the road construction.
Nice condos available on East Clinton Place--walking distance to downtown, restaurnats, shops, Amtrak.

The Tower Grove area is a nice area. I myself moved here from upstate NY (ROC) and one thing that I can say is you will see an increase on your savings. The cost of living is great here compared to NY and you can live in a great neighborhood. Much better than B-Lo too (went to college there). I came here with my job and didn't know a single soul. I'm confident you will love it here and prosper. Good Luck

Do not be afraid to move to St. Louis
I am a Realtor and I lived in St. Louis my whole life. I have kids and I have never worried or been affected by a flood. St. Louis is really not as bad as you hear. It is a very big place. Be sure to move into a good area. What parts have you been looking at? I will direct you in the right direction. I am not soliciting business..I am just a nice person.

Again - thanks for all the information. It looks like the job offer may now come in for Kansas City instead, so I am shifting my attention to that forum.

I just read this and think that the question about flooding was some timely...who could have known what the past two weeks would have brought!

I moved here from upstate, NY also (Rochester) I'm not a home owner but I can tell you the cost of living is a lot less. i currently live in the Maryland Heights area. It's about 30 min from downtown though. There are some condos and townhomes around here. But the places that were suggetsted to you as far as Tower Grove, etc are nice and would be closer to downtown where you will be working...Good Luck
