Taylor/Olive
Hi Everyone,
My gf and I are looking at places in the CWE and have noticed a few loft buildings with openings that are near Taylor/Olive. What do you think of this specific area in terms of walkability, safety, etc... It seems that since it's in the CWE, it's probably fine, but I've also heard that W. of Euclid and approaching Dlemar on the N. may not be the best areas.

Well Taylor is east of Euclid not west.
That is the heart of CWE... safe, vibrant, lots of foot traffic.

Are you talking about the building with the boxing gym? That location is definitely on the northern edge of the CWE. You're bound to glimpse a few shady characters on the street there now and then, but personally, if the price is right and the unit is nice I think it could be a great place to live. The past couple of years have yielded some good developments on that block. My wife and I walk to the garden center on the west end of that block frequently and never have any problems. It is definitely top notch in terms of walking distance to everything that makes the CWE so attractive.

Oops, I definitely meant East of Euclid. As for the building, there's actually a few there that we are potentially interested in. One is the Eugene Field School, and another is called the Taylor Olive building. I don't know about the boxing gym; we've never actually been there. Anyway, thanks for your help. It sounds like it's probably a pretty nice place to be, even if there are a few shady characters here and there. We're looking mostly into places in the CWE and University City (and maybe downtown) right now, so it's good to hear that one of our main options is reasonable.

Not anywhere near the heart of CWE, and, I would certainly change you're second part too (but I can't). I think you must be thinking of Taylor & Lindell or Forest Park.

No, I know exactly where it is. I've spent plenty of time there, and while you're probably right that it's not the heart of CWE, it's so easily walkable to it, and I've done so as late as midnight without a moment's thought. If you're uncomfortable with that, you could take like a $4 cab ride (hell probably less) home.
A few car break-ins and the occasional robbery are about the most you'll see around there. Also important to note that I am very used to city neighborhoods (even though I grew up in the suburbs) so it takes a little more than some people to make me nervous.

It's not in the heart of CWE, but is within walking distance. It's also within short walking distance of some hoods too . But welcome, my fiance and I live in CWE too.

The area is fine, ....as with any urban area, use your head at night.
