Teaching Jobs
Hi, was wondering if teaching jobs were available in the St. Charles/St. Louis area. I just graduated here in Florida (where it's next to impossible to get hired, because of budget cuts). Hubby wants to relocate to Missouri, but wasn't sure if teaching jobs are as hard to obtain there as they are here.
Thanks!

If you have a FL teaching certificate, then all you need to do in MO is complete the application and pay a fee; MO no longer requires a teacher with an out of state certificate to take a test, which makes it easy on you! Go to the Missouri department of education website and you can find it there. I would say the teacher demand here is about average with the rest of the country, depending on what your major is. If you're special ed, math or science, then you'll find more openings than for el ed, English or social science. Some districts are always in need, like the St. Louis city school district. You'll probably have a more difficult time getting hired, though, unless you've already moved here. You could always sub until you find a permanant position. Good luck!

Thanks, I've read up on Missouri's Department of Education about getting my certificate and it doesn't seem too hard. I was just curious about the job market. Here (Florida), two years ago, they couldn't find enough teachers to fill all the jobs but now jobs are nonexistent. Every local district is on a hiring freeze and if you don't have tenure, you may not have a job.
I'm subbing here now, so I don't mind subbing until I find something.
Thanks for the info!

I just moved to the St. Louis area and am looking for a teaching job. I've been applying to places every day, but am not getting calls. Now that schools are starting soon I'm thinking about subbing. Does anyone know where the best places are to send in info for subbing? How often will I be able to get a job??

I'm going to top this...now that we've got a lease signed and everything, my fiance is looking for teaching jobs in STL. She teaches high school English but could probably do middle school as well. She has a Master's and her grades were stellar, etc. Has taught in tough urban public and Catholic schools. Should be able to handle whatever comes her way, but it would be nice to take a break from having to be a constant disciplinarian.
Anyone who might have any leads whatsoever please PM me. Thanks so much.
