Another foodie thread
OK, all friends of St. Louis...my food question is:
Where is the best eatery (i.e. not Schnucks, Dierberg's or the like) to get pie? Doesn't matter if it's fruit pie, savory pie, chocolate pie...just need a couple of leads here.
Thanks!

well, its not strictly in STL, but, hands down, its gotta be the Blue Owl in Kimmswick, the baked goods are the BEST! If ya gotta stay in STL, then perhaps the Carondolet, or Amighettis on The Hill!

Indeed - The Blue Owl, 'tis great... when worked in Herky, swear could almost smell the sweet aroma from their cooking.
btw, some good antique shopping in that area too.

best damn apple pie EVER at the Owl, she is famous for her outragous interpretation! 10 lbs of apples, so she says......
I am gonna be in the STL area in 27 days (can ya tell I am counting?) and have already reserved one to pick up on my way from Lambert to Sainte Genevieve.... I swear, I am salivating already!

Saw this answer when trying to think of a name of a place I saw on the Food Channel. I believe it's the place in Alton mentioned in this statement.

riversco... Mrs. O's Cafe and Pie Pantry, Grandview Plaza, Florissant,MO. Lots of different kinds, price is reasonable. The turtle pie is yum, so is the lemon merange. {Grandview Plaza is on N270, take the Washington street exit}. Another is the Blue Owl at Kimmswick. Big variety and big servings. Another is My Just Desserts in Downtown Alton, Il or Elsah, Il. Take 367 to Alton, turn right, then left onto Broadway It is down the hill on the left near the Alton Telegraph building.. Elsah is the same road, just keep going out onto the Great River Road. All three places have lots of good shopping nearby.

This thread sure makes me miss Tippins. I know Dierbergs sells Tippins pies, but they're just not the same.

That seems to be the best option so far, as we live right by Forest Park...I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a late-night diner type of thing, but maybe you need to be in the smaller towns to get that sort of amenity.

Is Tippins no longer there?? I moved away from St. Charles County back in 2001, and Tippins was one of our favorite places to eat dessert. That and of course frozen custard from Ted Drewes (no frozen custard here in New England!!)
