schools
I am moving to St. Louis and looking for a school for my daughter.
Next week I plan to visit:
Linda Vista Catholic School
Sacred Heart - Eureka
Holy Infant - Ballwin
Any good or bad news regarding these schools is appreciated.

Holy Infant is huge (larger than the area public schools) and very strict. Linda Vista lost their building and have started up the school at a new location. I don't know anyone who ever went there but it seems like a lovely school. I have a lot of friends whose kids go to CPOP (Christ Prince of Peace) that love it, but I don't know anything about Fenton or Eureka.
I'm personally a public school person, but I thought I'd answer since no one else has.

Of those mentioned above me I know people who have been happily affiliated Holy Infant and CPOP. I am not as affiliated with the other two. Sacred Heart (Florissant) I am familiar with from a past life of knowing people from there.

It would be insane of you to pay the property taxes in the Rockwood area with their fantastic schools and pay to send them to a Catholic school that very likely isn't as good.
Sorry, that's just my personal opinion on the matter. You'll do what you're comfortable with and I would never be so brazen as to suggest you do otherwise, but at least promise me you'll look at your neighborhood Rockwood school - they really just don't come any better than that.

i am recently in el paso, and i hear that one. our property taxes were $10,000 and then school was another $6000. yes, in el paso? can you believe? i have heard rockwood is good but my other problem is that i plan to make an offer (hopefully) on a house this week when i visit, which won't put me in one until the beginning of september. how to register at a public school? but yes, i'll look!

Rockwood has really nice instructions on registering your kid... seems like it shouldn't be too much of a hassle once you've closed on your house.

School starts in mid-August, so your child may miss the first couple of weeks if you're not here yet. Maybe you could rent a small place for August? The Catholic schools probably start around the same time.

we'll be in apt. in mid august so as not to miss the beginning of school. but the apt. may not be in rockwood district. the company is paying and we don't get to choose it. that's the only little wrinkle. i will check it out.

Oh I see where the concern is then.
You may also be able to talk to the district school. Perhaps if the offer has been accepted on your home but you haven't closed yet, they'll let your daughter in on a temporary basis. Certainly worth a phone call.
Good luck!
