Default good restaurants in Kirkwood on Manchester?

Hey everyone, I am coming home in less than a week (Yaay!!!!). I am having lunch with a friend, who is a manager for Ethan Allen on Manchester in Kirkwood, and I need to know some really nice, NON-chain restaurants, any type of cuisine is fine, just need to stay in the area of her store, please help!

Is the Elephant Bar on the parking lot of West County Center a chain? It's really a great place.

In the other direction is one of my favorite restaurants called Farottos Italian Restaurant just east of Rock Hill Road on the north side of Manchester (9525 Manchester). Great salads, pasta and pizza. Very reasonable prices and you are in a very nice restaurant with a casual atmosphere. Of course, there is The Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on Manchester as well. All those places would be great and have lunch specials.

thanks Rick! I was hoping you would pop up. I looked at all those places online, so hard to tell from just a menu.
Have you heard of a place called Trattoria Two? That looks good also.

I have not been to Trattoria two but have been downstairs at Two Nice Guys. I'm not a big fan although many people are, and I know that Trattoria is suppossed to be a very good restaurant. Maybe someone who's been there can help you a little better. It certainly fits the bill for location to you.

How long are you in town? I think this board should have a meet and greet sometime. It would be nice to see some faces behind the posts. Back in the day when AOL was big they had great travel boards and I know I've met people in London and Paris at cafes or pubs and had great times. Showing my age, when CB's where big (in the late 60's and early 70's, we'd have what were called 'Coffee Breaks' and meet once a month at a restaurant. Doesn't have to be an expensive place, just a diner or something would be nice.

Have a great time while you're here.

will be flying in on the 7th, will be in Sainte Genevieve til the late afternoon of the 11th, then going to Poplar bluff til the 14th, and going home on the 15th.
I am going to be in STL for at least partial days on the 8th and 11th.
I soooo agree with you about a meet and greet! I am actually driving over to Branson on the13th, the Over the Fence Coffee Club convened a special meeting while I am home, so I will at least get to meet those wonderful folks, and see some of the faces behind the names.
If you are gonna be bopping about on the 8th, email me, I am going to be in the CWE and Lafayette Square after I have lunch with my cousin, just wanna tread on some home turf, ya know?

What type of price? Citizen Kane's is very expensive but very good steakhouse in Kirkwood. Amigo's is new and popular Mexican in downtown Kirkwood as well. Blue Water Grill. If you don't mind a dingy strip mall setting, Ami's in Rock Hill has some very good East Coast Pizza and some other items. Food is average but Hacienda has large outdoor patio and is festive atmosphere, always crowded, but it's a big place. If you want a dive cheap eats burger joint and pops(beers) Village Bar near 270 on Manchester is the pick.

Haven't eaten at Trattoria Two but have in past at Two Nice Guys many times. Farotto's is a solid pick in Rock Hill for St. Louis style Italian.

Go a bit further down to Nacho Mamas in Rock Hill. It's quick and tasty. If you are really pressed for time there is a place called The Daily Bread in Des Peres that is good for a bread, soup, salad, sandwich place.

NachoMamas is a national chain. I would have mentioned Dewey's for gourmet pizza and good salads and crat beers, but it again, is a chain based in Cincinnati.

Daily Bread is in the Panera mode, a step down from say a Cosi.

Elephant Bar is indeed a National Chain, and I am going to respectfully disagree here. I think the food is very poor there.

Trainwreck Saloon is a local chain as is Growler's, both close to original poster's sought geography but both with solid pub grub, especially Growler's.

The Nacho Mama's in Rock Hill is NOT part of a chain. It is an independent restaurant owned by locals named John and Nancy St. Yves. I know them personally and it is their baby. There may a chain called Nacho Mama's somewhere but this is the one and only.

Just like the Chueys here isn't associated with the Texas chain Chueys.
