Are there any really good independent bookshops in the Metro area? Especially those that might feature books on local history and color featuring local authors?

The only independent bookstores I know of are the ones by Wash U, Left Bank Books in the CWE, and Subterranean in the Delmar Loop. Left Bank is definitely bigger, but I bet both cover plenty of local authors. Alas, I probably spend more time at Borders these days just because it is closer to home...

And while Borders is a big fat chain, they're actually pretty good about stocking local authors.

I agree. I just thought going to an independent would be more fun with more potential to meet people.
