when are you going to china and what city are you going to?
If you're going to Beijing you will definitely want to stay around the central area anything around Xidan or Tian'anmen off of Chang'an blvd...try a few hotels around Chaoyang Gongyuan Xi Men (Chaoyang Park west gate) there are many interesting expat bars around that area and direct access to subway line one which takes you to Tian'anmen square, the forbidden city, xidan shopping district etc...
Fall is a beautiful season in Beijing and just plainly the best season to go...if you want to meet some cute chinese girls that aren't looking for a husband head down to Suzie Wong's at Chaoyang Park West Gate...for the avid night club junkie I would go to Vics or Mix which are both at Gongti Bei Men (Gonrentiyuchuang *Worker's stadium north gate) @ gongti bei lu (gongti north road)
There are thousands of good restaurants...for beijing duck I would recommend no other place over Li Qun duck restaurant...its a very old place in the old hutong district looks like a hole in the wall but its got great food...
If you're craving american the Kro's Nest has awesome american pizza...Lush is an american diner thats open 24/7 you will always find americans there. Pyro pizza which is right next door to Lush is also a college american crowd good place to meet westerners...
Make sure you write down your addresses in chinese characters! Chinese is a tonal language so if you say something wrong you could end up on the other side of the city. If cute young chinese girls in touristy areas are saying that they are students and want to go have a chat over some tea dont go with them they work for the tea houses and order the most expensive kind in house for themselves and you.
Hope this helps if you have a question just send me a message...I lived in Beijing for a year and have traveled all over China.
