Zip Codes in North County?
My real estate agent (bless her) in St. Louis and I are searching for houses mostly by zip code. She says she cannot "steer" me and I understand the problem from her perspective. I am looking mostly downtown St. Louis with a top purchase price of $80K. She is mostly familiar with South County.
Can anyone please direct me to some zip codes in or near north county that are reasonably safe? I am a single mom (white, if it matters) and while diversity is fine with me. I don't want to get mugged going out to get milk after dinner.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

63031, 63033, 63034 (Florissant) are some good zip codes, as is 63042 (Hazelwood) and 63044 (Bridgeton), also i would look into some parts of 63135 (Ferguson)

Unless your realtor is a close personal friend who you can't bear to part with, I would really suggest getting a realtor who specializes in the area you're looking at.
Do you have children? If so, try and be in Pattonville as they're very strong schools -Ferguson-Florissant is another option that's good, but they're not great. if you have kids stay away from Hazelwood and esp. Riverview schools.

Perfect!
Thank you! That gives me some help. I know where I am in some cities there are 2 or 3 or more zip codes that vary greatly, so just saying "X city" is not much help.
Yes, I have one child, so thanks for the school tips.
Re: Diversity, it's funny: I was looking around my work today and thinking - I work with three hispanics, an Asian women, and one African American woman. I am the only white chick in sight. and no one even cares or notices. We all gets along great. No one considers race an issue in any way. But I know there are parts of town here where it is a major issue, sadly.

Look in St. Ann, but make sure it's the portion in Pattonville's schools not Ritenour. It's fairly diverse - 80% white, 15% black, 4% hispanic and crime there is pretty low.

I live in Florissant in the 63031 area code. I feel very safe in my neighborhood and believe I got a good education. I am also selling my house for 83,000 that is located across from the police station. (314)614-3780 it isn't listed by a realtor.

63042, 63031.. those are my suggestions. Hazelwoood school districts aren't terrible, but ferg-flo is a little better. riverview is one I would try to avoid.

Hazelwood east is just as bad a riverview - West is only marginally better. I think for 80k you can get a place in a better district.

63108?
Is 63108 a shooting gallery, or pretty quiet?

Depends. 63108 includes the Central West End, one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city. There it's safe, but the surrounding area is block by block or straight up bad.
Also, important to note, that'll put you in city schools, so you'll need to look at magnets, charters and private schools -- which take time and effort and at least a bit of luck to get into. The public non-magnets are completely unacceptable.
