It will never happen that the line expands past Lambert.
Even If it was free of any tax to them of any kind but they had to vote on it, it still wouldn't pass.
It will go East out into Centralia before St. Charles county and beyond passes this one.
Anything East of 270 is 'dirty' to these suburbanites.
Stupid I know.

I'm a big proponent of light rail and its expansion in St. Louis.
Is it really all that difficult to have intelligent people run it though? Fares are mandatory, not optional. Security is essential, not optional. And so on.
On the one hand, light rail is a great opportunity in St. Louis. On the other, it must be run better.
I'd love to hear from those opposed to light rail in St. Louis, and why.

I think any city that expects to see growth in the future needs a good public transportation system.

When metro link was introduced to the voters in st.louis / st.charles county it was marketed as a "safe cost effective" mass transit system. I voted for it initially because i liked the concept but my area was "untouched" by the system with no commitments or timetables to include us...and i think there are alot of "us" out there....people who voted for it, paid taxes for it, and had no benefits from it. "Perception becomes Reality" and the perception is exactly what you said....dumb/corrupt people running a system that they cannot control (crime) and be fiscally smart (collect fares from those who use it).

Stevio is right about one thing: The prop that St Chuck-ians voted down all those years ago was literally: Let us tax you now, and we'll look into, maybe at some point, developing a plan to bring it out your way. That didn't sit well with many folks.
That being said, I'm not convinced it would have passed otherwise, but to only tell half the story is a bit unfair.
I'm a huge proponent to light rail, you won't find one bigger, but it's hard to convince people who will never use it of its value.
