Looks like we might be getting an MLS team by about 2011. Apparently Albnert Pujols is an investor in it.

STLtoday.com - STLtoday.com: Sports - Forums - Bernie's Press Box - Topic - Scoop: Pujols investor in Cooper's MLS bid (http://www.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=587947&sid=6728f56457c8e47c4982e6a 3fd4f5113 - broken link)

Interesting.

Jeff Cooper knows what he is doing. He's done very well with his grass roots campaign to land an MLS team. Albert puts a nice popular, National figure stamp on the project, to add to current less public but very wealthy investors. Another strike for balance for Jeff.

The MLS is granting two expansion teams for 2011. The cities that have submitted bids are Portland, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, St. Louis, and Miami.

St. Louis is considered one of the favorites.

I really hope they get a franchise because that is an easy road trip for games. I am sick of having to drive to Denver, Dallas, or Chicago to take a road trip when I want to see an away Wizards game.

I hope St. Louis gets it but I think it will most likely be Miami and a Canadian City.

I doubt Miami gets it. The only thing they have going for them is the money backing of Barcelona. An MLS team has already failed there once.

If I had to pick based on what I have read I would say it will be St. Louis and Vancouver or Portland.

Atlanta is another city that applied for a bid.

Well as a native STL'er and soccer fan (boyf plays for NYRB), I hope STL gets it.

MIA, even ATL, already have USL teams. They don't need another. haha.

My prediction is Montreal and St. Louis will get teams.

I really hope St. Louis does get a team. We "should" be living there by then.

Montreal withdrew their bid yesterday. I dont think they would of gotten chosen though. Their ownership group wasnt as strong. Remember, expansion teams arent awarded to cities, they are awarded to ownership groups.

It would be a shame if we got an MLS team and they put it out there in Illinois. The stadium should be in St Louis. Even in the county. Just somewhere along the I-64/40 corridor that plants the team and associated stadium squarely in the heart of the region where it can't be missed.

I think Jeff Cooper did approach St. Louis City and County. They didn't wanna cooperate.

I have no problem with Collinsville.
