SCB123 is on a distinguished road
Some people respond with what STL has to offer, in vague terms, nothing specific. What does STL have to offer, or is it some big secret, or do you really know? Frankly I have a lot to offer, but do I care enough about STL to offer it? Or better yet, should I care enough about STL to cast my pearls before swine? Seems like a lot of hatefulness going on, on this thread. No different from what goes on in STL, just a lot of hate by people with very low self esteem. Hate by people who don't want things to be better for STL, and have no pride in themselves or their town.

The only thing that is really different to me is the racial separation. Being from California, this is a weird thing to me. Look at one zip code on CD and it is 95% white, another one is 86% black. I'm not saying this is good or bad, just weird.

Again, what do you have to offer St. Louis?

BTW, I have NEVER had a door held out for me in CA like I have here (mentioning how women are treated reminded me of this). One gentleman actually jogged to get ahead of me and hold the door for me! Chivalry is definitely more evident here than on the coast.

We went back home to California over Christmas, and my husband looked at me and said, why did we leave here? We left due to his job transfer, but we can also transfer back in a couple of years, if we don't learn to like it here.

Frankly, I think the weather is great. The winter makes one appreciate the spring, and summer. I would like it if the fall were more colorful, like the east coast. The snow is energizing, but so is the California sun.
Your statement about fall is puzzling since I have lived on the East Coast and have spent a lot of time on the East Coast, as well as St. Louis. Please, do explain.

Here's a question for y'all:

We have been in our house for a little over a month. I have not met any of our neighbors. Is this due to us being renters? The cold weather? Or is it just not customary to greet newcomers to the neighborhood?

How? Seems to me to be a pretty valid question.

Obviously you've formed an opinion about this city, but what opinion do you think it's formed of you?

I probably missed it, but where are you living?

And I'm not sure if this is a midwest thing or a city thing, but I don't know any of my neighbors in Chicago (either of the apartments I've lived either). I smile and say hi if I pass them by, but that's about it.

This summer, see if any of your neighbors organize a block party. If not, you should. It would be a lot of fun and a good way to get to know everybody.
