Washington Ave and Public Transportation Question (Clark: apartments, renting, home)

Hello all,

This forum is great. I wanted to ask a couple questions. I am going to be renting a place at the Washington Avenue apartments (1100 block) and would like to know about general safety (walking, etc) of this area. I've heard it's a very popular area, but I'm a young female, caucasian, and don't want to do anything that's going to get me into trouble. Is this area safe for walking to bars, shopping, etc?

Also, I'll be working on the other side of downtown, (7th and Clark area) and would like to know if public transportation is a good option to getting to and from work. Is it safe and timely?

The area is very safe and there shouldnt be a problem walking around. As for work I would either walk or take the bus. Go to the Metro STL website and it will give you a list of bus schedules. The other option would be to walk to the Pine or Covention Centro subway stop and get off at Busch stadium.

The area is relatively safe. That said, even in safe areas just make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Try to go out with friends and have them walk back to your apartment with you.

I really like that area and would not feel too concerned walking around (I'm a 23 yr old woman btw)

As in any urban area, pay attention to your surroundings and don't walk home drunk alone and you should be fine.
