Default Broker? Real Estate Agent?

Is it worth it to use a broker or apartment finder? I've heard both bad and good things. How much do they charge? Are they generally knowledgeable about the areas?

I've been looking at apartments online but haven't had a whole lot of luck with what I need. Anyone have any advice?

It's always good to use them. They cost you nothing and they know the areas and apartment complexes. You have nothing to lose. Best of luck to you.

I've used Craigslist but the postings don't answer all of the questions. Perhaps a combination of my own research and a broker?

If so, does anyone know someone who doesn't charge much and can show me some properties in Central St. Louis?

Thanks!

I'm looking too. I narrowly missed being scammed on Craigslist so I'm leary of it long distance. I'm hoping someone will help us. What area are you looking in?

Broker's will get a good place in a safe area, but they will not get you a cheap place.

Those moving from out of town may find them a useful tool, but once you know the boundaries of neighborhoods and what you like you are really much better just taking the time to do it yourself.

Also know that we are here to help -- so tell us where you're moving to and how much you can spend and we can give you a hand perusing Craigslist.
