Thank you ShadowCaver for this information. I see that I must gather my remembories rather quickly, well as quickly as a senior citizen can gather.
Okay, one of my remembrances goes back about 60+ years ago. To a time when my Mother, my baby sister, an Aunt and 2 cousins would take a daylong ride on the Admiral on an afternoon. We were allowed to bring lunches and our drinks on board. Sandwiches wrapped in Cut-Rite wax paper, apples, bananas, and oranges, Kool-Aid, lemonade, and sometimes sweet tea. We were allowed to spend our meager allowances on Cracker Jack, popcorn and then the greatest of all: THE games!!!
Penny Arcade, many games with balls, and this was all 'way down below' the main deck! The bathrooms were something out of a Hollywood movie set being entered by curving walkways into the glamorous interiors. Beautifully decorated with murals, Deco Art everywhere and fabulous lighting. We all took many of thee trips for many years.
Then my grade school graduation party was held on the beloved Admiral that evening, June of 1950. Alas, this rememborie is not always so enchanting as I experienced a rather embarrassing moment....

All of the girls were dressed in semi-formal attire and the boys in suits or suit jackets and dress slacks. Memories include the girls giggling and pretending that we didn't notice the boy's looks at us.
I would not advise any girl wearing a semi-formal, almost off the shoulder, pale blue organza gown and sporting her first pair of real, honest to goodness, 3 inch high heels, to saunter around a moving ship and 'run' down the outside steps. No, never. I fell down these steps in a very unladylike manner, head first. Luckily, only my ego and feelings were injured. And here I was doing my best to get the attention of one of the boys I admired. Well, I did that, but not in the way in which I had intended!
The day trips were wonderful. Saw many sights along the river banks. However to me it was the night time excursions that were the very best. The Lights, the Music of the different bands that played. Watching the adults dance in their best finery as well as others in their everyday dress up clothes. Then going on the upper deck and watching the stars, the lights blinking along the shorelines. The sounds of the engines. Yes, so many wonderful and very much missed memories. Missing the Admiral. Like missing an old warm fuzzy friend. Would love to wrap my arms just once more around her columns and 'trip down' those stairs again.
