There is literally nothing questionable about the area along Natural Bridge where the vast majority of the airport hotels are -- literally nothing. Where were you?

That's not the feeling I get. I could be paranoid, but that's not the feeling I get about the entire area around the airport. A lot of people will avoid the entire airport area completely other than to catch a plane.

That's a good question. I'm glad you asked. Number one has GOT to be the pizza!! I'm sorry, but St. Louis style pizza is puke on a cracker... Disgusting!!!

The second thing has more to do with how St.Louis views itself when compared to other cities, most notably when compared to Chicago and Kansas City. Sheer ignorance is the only real way to describe it. St. Louis is NOTHING like Chicago, not even close! Quit comparing St. Louis to Chicago because it just makes you look silly when you do that St. Louis! On the other hand, St. Louis thinks it's a big city while Kansas city is a small hick town. Guess what, Kansas City is closer to St. Louis size (and population) wise than any other city is. To top it off, KC has more arts and culture than St. Louis does even though it is a smaller city. And let's face it, BOTH cities have their fair share of hicks. With that said, St. Louis does have it's strengths, but sorely needs to come to terms with it's identity. St. Louis is NOT KC or Chicago, and has it's own merits to stand on.

The third thing is Cardinals fans and their claim as being the best fans in baseball. Cardinal fans whine and complain WAY too much to EVER be considered the best fans of anything. I actually laughed when I heard fans complaining about what the cards did or didn't do in the offseason when they were the defending WS champions! One would think that truly great fans could be at least somewhat satisfied with their team when it just won it all instead of calling them cheap. I guess part of the problem is cardinals fans still think that st. louis somehow compares with Chicago. See last gripe for explaination for that one. And where were all of the greatest fans several years ago when the stadium was largely empty because the cards were in a down cycle? Hmmm... The GREATEST fans would surely support their team no matter what... Like Cubs fans do.

I'm sure that by now you have noticed my screen name. To get rid of confusion, I grew up in Kansas City. Along the way, I have also lived in New Orleans, Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, and currently live in St. Louis. Do not get me wrong, I really DO like St. Louis. It IS a nice place to live and there's plenty to do. As an outsider, I have noticed the annoying things I listed above, so I mentioned them. I can also do the same with every other city in the country. I've been to them all over the years. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, except for Detroit.. It's just an armpit... PERIOD (Philly isn't much better.) I mentioned these things, because these are the things people in other cities make fun of St. Louis for (besides east st. louis anyway.) One more note... Referring to Arrowhead stadium as Camarohead is neither offensive (to those in KC) OR amusing (to anybody outside of StL.) It's just stupid and pretty lame.

KC has more arts and culture than STL? I think they are comparable however I would be intersted knowing how you have come to this conclusion. Any proof?

More theaters, more museums, more diversity. KC has one of the largest museums in the country (Nelson-Atkins) which is also rated in the top 15. The jazz museum, the 18th & vine district, the negro leagues museum, the liberty memorial (the ONLY WWI museum in the country) A HUGE number of theaters that offer live entertainment (like plays and operas.) Just to name a few. I could go on, but it would take all day. Feel free to look it up for yourself. The bottom line is both have things that are comparable to each other. A lot of them in fact, but KC definitely has more things that St.L doesn't than StL has that KC doesn't. That said, you missed the point of my comment entirely. The reason I mentioned it is because of the belief that St. Louis is a "great eastern city" while at the same time, Kansas City is "a little cow town." Fairly similiar size (given Kansas city IS less populated than StL) and arguably more culture completely blows the whole cow town ASSumption out of the water does it not? Now, if you REALLY want culture, try New Orleans on for size!

I beg to differ on your point of view. I am fairly certain that STL has as many if not more diversity, museums, and theaters. There are also a lot of other things that fall into this category as well. Just because someone ranked the Nelson 5 spots higher than the STL Art museum doesnt qualify it as having a better arts scene. I will post more later this weekend.

If you lived in Chicago as you say you have, then you'd know that many people attending Cubs games aren't Cubs fans. They are there for the frat party in Wrigleyville.

3.4 million people attended Cardinal games last year. I suppose they whined all the way to the ticket window with their money.

I've lived in Chicago and St. Louis, among many other places, and I would never call St. Louis better than Chicago or vice versa, nor any other place better than another. That's for people with vent up anger needing an outlet like you and it makes themselves temporarily feel better, though it won't last.

You first say don't compare places, then you go ahead and do so make your own conclusions of your definition of better etc...rather hypocritical.

I lived in StL for years and still go there many times a year.

KC and StL offer about the same quality of life to residents and tourists.

I honestly think that KC might have even passed StL in the past few years with the addition of the WWI Museum, the College Basketball Experience, the Nelson Expansion, the new Performing Arts Center, the P&L district and others.

As far as arts goes. I don't know which is better, or if that can even be figured out, but KC has one hell of an arts scene for a city its size. Once of the largest gallery districts in the country, the KC Art Institute, the Kemper Museum of Modern Art, the Nelson Atkins, and many theaters including the new 420 million dollar Performing Arts Center which will be one of the top venues in the world when complete.

KC has many theaters including the Uptown, Midland, Music Hall, Starlight etc and KC gets all the touring acts.

Both cities have comparable amusement parks although one could argue that Worlds of Fun combined with Oceans of Fun is larger than Six Flags/Hurricane Harbor and KC is getting a Schlitterbaun water park. KC it putting 3/4 billion into the Truman Sports complex, just built a state of the art arena, has a fairly new speedway and will soon break ground on a 100 million dollar soccer stadium for the Wizards. Last time I checked the Post Dispatch did a story on KC getting more big concerts than StL, but I'm sure that will level off eventually.

I think we can go on and on comparing the two cities, but the bottom line is that KC really does offer as much or more than StL does when it comes to attractions and urban culture. That is something that many StL residents have a real hard time comprehending while they are in their little world of "we are in Chicago's shadow". StL is so much more like KC than Chicago.

The problem with StL now is that westward sprawl is simply out of control. The metro is really not growing much, but migration to the west makes it seem like it's growing like Phoenix or something. Many suburbs are now 50 even 60 miles from downtown. KC grows in all directions and everybody is within 25 miles of downtown. That helps KC's urban core have a chance I think where in StL so much of the population is so far from downtown that it will be much more difficult to re-invest in the urban core. (the previous statement was my contribution to the original topic of this thread).

I love KC and StL. To this day, I’m not sure which one I would choose if I had to make that choice. But I will defend KC and inform the ignorant that KC offers a lot more than most people know.
