The second thing has more to do with how St.Louis views itself when compared to other cities, most notably when compared to Chicago and Kansas City. Sheer ignorance is the only real way to describe it. St. Louis is NOTHING like Chicago, not even close! Quit comparing St. Louis to Chicago because it just makes you look silly when you do that St. Louis! On the other hand, St. Louis thinks it's a big city while Kansas city is a small hick town. Guess what, Kansas City is closer to St. Louis size (and population) wise than any other city is. To top it off, KC has more arts and culture than St. Louis does even though it is a smaller city. And let's face it, BOTH cities have their fair share of hicks. With that said, St. Louis does have it's strengths, but sorely needs to come to terms with it's identity. St. Louis is NOT KC or Chicago, and has it's own merits to stand on.
The third thing is Cardinals fans and their claim as being the best fans in baseball. Cardinal fans whine and complain WAY too much to EVER be considered the best fans of anything. I actually laughed when I heard fans complaining about what the cards did or didn't do in the offseason when they were the defending WS champions! One would think that truly great fans could be at least somewhat satisfied with their team when it just won it all instead of calling them cheap. I guess part of the problem is cardinals fans still think that st. louis somehow compares with Chicago. See last gripe for explaination for that one. And where were all of the greatest fans several years ago when the stadium was largely empty because the cards were in a down cycle? Hmmm... The GREATEST fans would surely support their team no matter what... Like Cubs fans do.
I'm sure that by now you have noticed my screen name. To get rid of confusion, I grew up in Kansas City. Along the way, I have also lived in New Orleans, Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, and currently live in St. Louis. Do not get me wrong, I really DO like St. Louis. It IS a nice place to live and there's plenty to do. As an outsider, I have noticed the annoying things I listed above, so I mentioned them. I can also do the same with every other city in the country. I've been to them all over the years. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, except for Detroit.. It's just an armpit... PERIOD (Philly isn't much better.) I mentioned these things, because these are the things people in other cities make fun of St. Louis for (besides east st. louis anyway.) One more note... Referring to Arrowhead stadium as Camarohead is neither offensive (to those in KC) OR amusing (to anybody outside of StL.) It's just stupid and pretty lame.

This argument is beat and frankly St Louis doesn't care. After spending a LOT of time in both cities here is a huge difference. St Louis doesn't compare itself to KC, its doesn't speak bad about KC, it doesn't care about KC. After being in St Louis 5 years, I don't think I've heard anyone mention anything derogatory about KC. If you mention St Louis in KC they get in a huff, almost as if they have some inferiority complex. Let's just all agree that both cities are good places in Missouri to live. I'm sure I could be happy in both places.
P.S. I have never heard anyone compare STL to Chicago

i hate the simple minds.
I hate how it seems everyone only thinks about going to the club.
I hate how the men lie about how much money they have to impress you.
i hate the dating scence in st. louis.
i hate how it seems the prettier you are, the more the men think you are easy, where i am from "milwaukee" the men respect the prettier women way more. actually, in milwaukee, the prettier you are, the more respectful you will be treated.
other than that, its all right. lmao

^Seems like those fit a lot of cities. I don't know about the dating scene, though. You can find shallow people anywhere.

That's not true at all. We have been to KC several times and have had nothing but great experiences. There was no snobbery or elitism. In fact, KC seemed more welcoming to a mixed-race couple than our hometown of STL did.
Unless you're referring to the National Hockey League (which may be in KC very soon) or Major League Baseball, I can't imagine why KC would feel inferior to STL.

The thing I hate most about St. Louis is how close minded some people can be. I really feel that in order for a city to become diverse it has to be an appealing place for geographical reasons, opportunity, etc. In St. Louis there is no middle class, people are really rich or really poor. The rich ones will never put money into the city to help it grow and North County and East St. Louis will continue to scare people off. It's sad because the city does have a lot of potential, but it has basically been on a downward slope for a long time. I was born in St. Louis but realized very quickly that my dreams could only go so far and moved for a better opportunity

Stating that there is no middle class is a bit much. I am sure all the middle class people I know in the Lou will be shocked to know they have been lumped in with the poor.

Wow I had no idea the vast majority of residents of St. Louis county, south St. Louis city, St. Charles county and the Metro East are all either really poor are really rich. Seems to me that the opposite is true, I know of no one who is really poor and only a couple of people who are really rich. Also, the city has been improving, slowly but surely, for this entire decade. Population is increasing, development is still steady despite the economy, many neighborhoods are gentrfying, and there is even a large scale development planned for north city. While not perfect, St. Louis certainly isn't on a "downward slope".
Which brings me to what I hate about St. Louis: Exurban snobs and expats making uninformed blanket statements about the city and region.
