I know there's the chiro school there. Is it primarily students?

Read my latest post for your answer to that. Tornadoes do not scare me. I grew up there and remember them having drills for that in elementary school. I have a friend who lives in LA and I said to him once that I would find all the natural disasters there scary - ie earthquakes, fires, mudslides etc. He said he grew up with it so he didn't find it frightening. Bottom line is that these things tend to get blown out of proportion in the media and that scares people more than what is necessary. I live in south Florida where we have the threat of hurricanes and in fact I went through Hurricane Wilma here which hit my particular area of south Florida harder than it's ever been hit. I found it kind of fun actually. The damage was AMAZING. Most people didn't have electricity for about a week - traffic lights were out for days, we were all under a curfew. But people tend to band together during these kinds of things. I was in a gas line for 8 hours. You talk to people, share your stories, a neighbor brings out his grill so you can cook your meat before it goes bad, etc. Anyway, I know plenty of people who lived out their entire lives in St. Louis without getting a roof blown off by a tornado. Personally, I think you'll be fine.

If your into chain restaurants Chesterfield definatly has them. I much rather prefer locally owned restaurants, hardware store's, bar's, etc...

I'd aim for Clayton. They have a cheap gym (Bally's, which I would avoid), and expensive gym (Wellbridge, really more of a spa I think) and a good community center with a gym that would be cheap for a resident. Doesn't really get any more educated and plenty of 31ish professionals to meet up with. Plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment. I doubt you can get a *nice* 2 bedroom for $1000, but I'd bet you could get a pretty decent one bedroom for that. You might find a run down 2 bedroom there for $1000. A nicer 2 bedroom could probably be had in the close by (and also nice) areas of Richmond Heights and Brentwood. All three of these places are convenient to Chesterfield-- 15 minutes or so by car.

I'm not aware of any complexes although there may be high rise complexes there. I'd look at an area there called the Moorlands - it's an area of apartment buildings - but without amenities you would have at a regular complex - pool, fitness center, etc. It's a very nice convenient area, old housing - some have been renovated, some have not. They have a lot more character than you garden variety apartments in complexes.

Funny how growing up with something makes it not scary. I agree with Joanie about the media blowing things way out of proportion and scaring us. I've lived in CA my whole life and when there's an earthquake we're like woohooo....did ya feel that? That was a good one! Of course we take them seriously and we follow the steps....having food stores, preping for an aftershock....or waiting to see if it was a preshock. But in 10 min it's just a cool subject of conversation. It boils down to the difference between a car crash and an airplane crash. No one hears about every little car crash, although they are much more frequent and just as deadly. But every single plane crash hits the news. BTW if you didn't listen to the vocal feed of the guy who crashed the plane in the Hudson River in NY, you should. This man needs a hat tip for calmly explaining how his plane is crashing and that's a good suggestion to make it to that landing strip but nope...I'm going down in the Hudson, lol. Talk about nerves of steel!
Sorry, off topic. I was only reading the thread because I'm considering relocating to the area and was voyering the advise you all had for the OP.

alright, well, from the looks of it, i'm going to be just renting a place convenient to chesterfield for the first 6 months, then moving to a diff place after that. that way i have more time to explore the area to figure out what's going to work best for me. it's awfully overwhelming to try and figure this out when i don't even know the area at all. does anybody have any recommendations for apartment complexes around chesterfield?
i'm looking for something clean, safe, and 850 or less for a two bedroom?
thank you!

Chesterfield is not a good place for young adults. Are you positive you want to do that? When most people make a move like that they get complacent and comfortable with their surrondings and their commute. Plus moving is a real pain in the a** and why would you want to do that twice. Your best bet right now is to look in the CWE, Clayton, Brentwood, Richmond Heights area.
