Fashion square is good. You may want to look at the Merchandise Mart, Ely Walker Lofts (has its own private gym in the bldg free to residents), Bee Hat Lofts, and the Vanguard Lofts. All the blocks are perfectly fine from 7th down to Jefferson.

The Paul Brown is a wonderful bldg with a roof top pool. You make want to take a look at that as well. Located on Olive in the OPO district.

Yes its 40 mins. OPO stands for the Old Post Office district downtown bounded by Locust, Olive, 10th, and 7th. Its an area that has been polished in the past 4 years and has come a long way. The Paul Brown Lofts are 3 blocks south of Wash Ave. The OPO district is not near as busy as Wash Ave at night since it is right in the heart of the central business district but would still be a good choice. Its very busy during business hours. They are also opening a 20000 sq ft grocery store across the street.

is washington ave a better place to live than the OPO district?
i noticed the paul brown has apartments for people with lower incomes. wouldn't that make the apartment environment more of a frathouse style environment?

Not necessarly. The lower income restriction is to help teachers, policemen, firefighters, social workers, etc find an affordable place to live.
I prefer Wash ave due to the retail spots open day and night. The OPO is more laid back at night with businesses closing after work hours. When you go apt hunting it may be wise to check out both during the day and at night to get a feel for both areas. Both areas are clean and safe.

i just emailed him. thanks for the tip! i've been looking on craigslist, and it seems that they've been discounting their apartments at an effort to get them rented. have you come across any great deals for that building?
