What is the area surrounding the Robert A. Young Federal Building at 1222 Spruce St like? Are there any hotels/restaurants/bars nearby? I'm staying at the Hilton but wouldn't hesitate to switch hotels if the area near the federal building was better.

It's a fine area, though not the most hopping part of downtown. I've stayed at the Sheraton there and you end up walking, taking the metro or taking a cab to most restaurants/nightlife options.

There's actually two Hilton's downtown -- one across from Busch Stadium and one a couple blocks farther north at 4th and Olive.

The Hilton St. Louis is a more active part of downtown, but you'll still probably still spend more time around the Washington/Tucker area, which is where a lot of the hip restaurants and bars are.

As long as you are close to a metro stop it'll be easy enough to get around downtown, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks for the info! I'll be staying at the Hilton Busch Stadium. I was in St. Louis last June, when the Cards were on the road, and thought the location around the stadium was pretty remote. I ended up spending most of my evenings either at Lumiere or at the restaurant district near the water.

NJ2MDdude, if you are going to be out and about in St. Louis, I'd like to recommend that you visit the Courtesy Diner on Hampton Avenue. Order the St. Louis specialty, the Slinger; burger patty, 2 eggs, hash browns, covered in chili. Delicious.

If you are near the stadium when the Cards aren't in town is will be very quiet. I've stayed at the Westin right there several times, and it's pretty empty a night. That said, it's a shorter walk to the Washington Ave. loft district as well as the landing from near Busch than from the area surrounding the fed. building.

Essentially, neither are ideal locations, but they both offer easy access to the metro, so you'll be fine either way.

Try Washington Ave loft district this time for restaurants, bars etc...you can take a very short cab ride or a long walk from where you are staying.

Thanks for the advice!

I regret not snagging the complementary guide to St. Louis the last time I was there. Oh well...
