Wentzville
Hi, My husband just got a job offer in Wentzville. I have 5 kids ages neborn-7 years old. I am looking for a nice small community with an excellent school district. Right now my husband commutes 30mins a day so a commute will not bother him.
We are looking for a family friendly community, a Catholic church nearby, great school district, fun things for kids to do in the summers, and a warm welcoming neighborhood.
Right now we live in a town with one stop light, 2 gas stations, a pizza place, and a subway....lol. My kids are able to play outside without my direct supervision because our community is so family friendly and everyone knows eachother. My oldest is able to walk to school by himself. Basically I want the community to feel/be really really safe. Is this a place for us?
Thank you!!!

Wentzville is by no means a small community. It is a rather large "suburb" type community.
I go through there constantly and everything seems nice but if you are from a town with 1 stop light, there is going to be a dramatic difference.

Living in Wentzville, Troy, or O'Fallon would probably be good for you guys. Your hubby would have a short commute & these towns have pretty good schools and are safe. You'll have no problem fitting in if you're catholic, St. Louis is as catholic as Salt Lake City is mormon if that tells you anything.

You can look at smaller suburbs nearby Wentzville such as Troy, Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie or Wright City or if you want something even smaller and less suburban (more rural) look at New Melle, Defiance, Foristell, Jonesburg or Truxton.
Although it's gotten a lot more suburban over the last 10 years, my suggestion would be Cottleville. It's a small little community with a little blink-and-you'll-miss-it downtown. Housing is relatively inexpensive, but on the rise, and you'll have easy access to all the suburban amenities of neighboring St. Peters, O'Fallon and St. Charles. Wentzville will be a very easy commute.
The area is very safe, tightly knit, and the best thing fo your family is there is a very large Catholic church right in Cottleville -- St. Joseph. It's a large parish (I believe it's one of the largest in the St. Louis Archdiocese) and they recently (within the last 15 years) built a beautiful new church. They have a Web site (though it's pretty basic) if you wanted to check it out: St Joseph Web Site-Index page.
If you have more questions about the area, please feel free to ask!
