Seamus Mc Daniels location
Hello, everyone. I am new to St Louis and have been using my day off to explore. Last week my girlfriend and I went to the Mardi Gras dog parade in Soulard. Then last week I took her to the American Kennel Club museum and then over to Gooey Louies on Chippewa. We enjoyed all of these things and I continue to look for things unique to the city. My one concern is ending up in a bad location. My friend was born and raised here but left in '76. and moved to NJ where I am from. Now that kids are grown she has moved back here and of course it is very different from when she was here. Sh has visited family in St Charles but that was it. I think she was a little worried when we headed to Gooey Louies, but it seemed lke an okay neighborhood. Next week I would like to take her to Seamus McDaniels for lunch. It sounds like the area is nice...... please advise. Oh and I did want to take her to that candy shop but have been a tad reluctant to venture there.
Any advise I would appreciate
Thanks

I and everyone I know love Seamus McDaniels and you will love the area too. I'm assuming you're talking about the one in dogtown across from the zoo by a few blocks. As for 'the candy company' I'm assuming you're talking about Crown Candy. Personally, I loved going there when I worked down in the neighborhood, but I would never go out of my way to go there. It's small and there is not much around it. They tried turning the area into a walking street many years ago, but just couldn't attract people to move in there. If you are going down I-70 anyway, it's only a few blocks off and certainly you wouldn't have to worry about the neighborhood, there are a lot of businesses near enough to it that it's pretty busy around lunch time. I don't think I'd go there later than lunch, if they're even open much later than lunch because I think the ambience of Crown Candy is best when it's crowded.

Thanks, Rick. Yes I prefer to check out the Seamus in the city location. I will definately plan for this outing then. The irish atmosphere, the burgers, are perfect for an afternoon out for us. Plus she has a dog named Seamus so she will get a kick out of it. How funny that I am the one acclimating her to the area she left years ago. I can't just sit here, I need to explore. Thanks for the heads up on the candy shop.

I am kind of shocked that your friend thought that Gooey Louies is in a bad location. That area of town has NEVER EVER been bad.
Seamus is in Dogtown, which is just fine. It is safe to go there day or night.
There are very few popular restaurants that are located in truly dangerous areas. If you keep exploring, you will get used to the city pretty quickly and you won't be apprehensive. Even if you end up in a bad area, it is pretty easy to keep on driving.

Well I don't think she knew exactly where we were going, and I myself was having some problems following the GPS, so that is why she was concerned. What part of the city is the Gooey Louie section referred to as?
Thanks for your feedback

That is the Lindenwood Park/St. Louis Hills area.

The location of Gooey Louie's is in one of the nicest neighborhoods in St Louis...what did you find sketchy about it????
I live 4 blocks or so from Seamus McDaniel's. Great food and atmosphere, and there is not a problem at all to be had in that area.
Regarding Crown Candy, yes, it's in North St Louis. I can also tell you that there is a 99.999999999999999999999% chance you will not be shot or mugged just for going there/driving through N. St Louis in the day. I wouldn't recommend going there at night simply because you are unfamiliar with the area.
I am curious; did you come from a small town? I don't think anyone from an urban area would find anything on Chippewa to be in an even remotely bad neighborhood. Most urbanites find STL Hills to be damn near suburban.
Btw, my question about being from a small town is not derogatory; I actually come from a small town myself.

You should probably remove the "Be cautious" from your quote. The reason I say this is because if I were apprehensive about even the nicer neighborhoods in the city, hearing a "be cautious" would steer me away, and he should not be steered away from CCK. If you have been there and think this, then fine, but I'm guessing you haven't been there.
