Barden's not on the ballot, unless you write him in.

Ah, should've realized that, with Troy Glaus as the main guy over at third. Do you know when he might be coming off the DL?

Troy's injury turned out to be worse than expected, and he needs more time, and the time frame is unknown right now. So far Thurston and Barden have filled in admirably, so much so that David Freese was sent down. When Troy's contract run's out the Cardinals will be playing Brett Wallace at third base within the next 1-2 seasons. Brett Wallace is an elite hitter, better hitting prospect than anyone since Pujols for the Cardinals. However, Brett's body is more like a walrus, short, enormous legs, work in progress defensively at third base. He's an ideal DH, or first base, but with Stl he'll play third and in a pinch left field. But make no mistake, he hits like a beast. Everyone else is keeping Troy's seat warm, and also Brett's seat warm in the mean time. Getting Troy back will be big and helpful to the Cardinals this season. I would not expect Barden or even Thurston to be everyday consistent guys long term this season. So far so good.
MUST get Carpenter back to have a chance this season.

Cards are #1 here, 2nd week in a row... Phil Rogers' MLB power rankings -- chicagotribune.com
lol, I like who's in the #9 position
BTW, as of Friday's games, the Cardinals' 17-7 start is their best since 1944.

Wow, even better than 1985! Now Carp's just going to have to come back yet again, and Ankiel get his hot bat back.....

Mark it down. If the Cardinals are going to have a shot at winning the division, they will need a healthy Carpenter for most of the season. This is unless they acquire an elite 1-2 starter later in the season from elsewhere which is not likely to happen. The key to this year's season is Carpenter. Other things are involved but if you have to pick one thing, that's it.

Bit of a May swoon for the Redbirds, but my gosh, as soon as Carp came off the DL and tossed 5 more shutout innings and kept his ERA right at zero, Cardinal pitching has been on fire! In their past five games, check all this out:
Tuesday, 5/19--Joel Piniero takes the mound and tosses a complete game, three-hit shutout against the Chicago Cubbies.
Wednesday, 5/20--Carpenter combines with four relievers to earn a 2 to 1 win over the Cubbies.
Thursday, 5/21--Adam Wainwright's turn to toe the rubber; he gives up just one run and finishes just one out away from a complete game. 3 to 1 Cardinals for the three-game sweep!
Friday, 5/22--Cardinals shut out KC, 5-zip! 6 scoreless innings pitched by the previously shaky Todd Wellemeyer, spreading out four hits and three walks.
Saturday, 5/23--Deja vu all over again, as Yogi Berra would say. Kyle Lohse gives up only four hits over eight shutout innings, and doesn't walk a batter; Chris Perez closes it out in the ninth and the Royals find themselves again on the short end of a 5-0 game! No Rick Ankiel yet, but they've got to be really careful not to have him do too much too fast.
Three shutouts and only two runs given up in the Cardinals' last five games! I'll tell you what, whatever Dave Duncan is doing with the Redbird hurlers, it is sure working.

Carpenter pitched a no-no through 6 today, and the Cardinals lost 1-0 in 10 innings to the Brewers.
