Des Peres and Creve Coeur?
Hello,
I posted a couple of months ago about places to live here and you were all very helpful. We're here now and I LOVE the area (just moved from England, but we're Americans). We've been looking in Chesterfield, Town & Country and some in closer-in Wildwood; but we've also noticed some possibilities in Des Peres and Creve Coeur. Can anyone tell me if those would be good choices to live? Safety, school districts, attractive areas, culture, etc.? (We have a pretty good house budget--$550-600)
I apologize if this has been asked a million times. I did start a thread search, but wasn't finding the answer.
Thanks loads!

Both are very nice, very safe ares with very good schools and plenty of nearby amenities -- in Des Peres for instance you have West County Mall and the rec center, The Lodge at Des Peres (complete with the best lazy river outside of a water park I've seen). Creve Coeur is a little farther north, with a really lovely park (Creve Coeur Park). Both have easy access to 270.
I would say that either would be very good options. With your budget, you can get a lot of house.
If you have any more specific questions, let me know; I'd be happy to help.

The areas you mention are in the respected school districts of Kirkwood and Parkway. While you could buy a nice house in the better respected school districts of Clayton and Ladue you won't get nearly as much for your dollar. Depending on your circumstances Ladue and particularly Clayton offer better location, but to each their own.
You should also check out houses in the Rockwood district city of Eureka which due to its proximity to I-44 provides a faster drive to downtown than 90% of Wildwood and a good portion of Chesterfield.
I recommend that you check out the following site for school boundaries as well sortable test scores for all the St Louis county schools. It provides a sole-source reference for school comparisons: St. Louis County/City School District Profiles

All of the places you are searching have the criteria you are seeking, with culture depending on your definition of what you are seeking in that department. It will come down to personal preference for you in terms of geography, house itself, etc..costs, etc..and other things that you weigh as more or less important to your decision.
If you have more specific questions ask.

Just to clarify, the west part of Creve Coeur is in the Parkway school district while the east part is in the Ladue school district. I believe the dividing line roughly follows Mosley Road.
Also, Creve Coeur Park is actually in Maryland Heights.

You're correct, and you can follow this link to view the district in detail:

By a stone's throw perhaps. It's a county park either way, so it's not like that distinction makes any difference.
Regardless, it's a great place for Creve Coeur residents to spend a Saturday afternoon. My family used to have reunions there and it was always lots of fun.

More like 5+ miles from the outermost edge of Creve Couer. It is in the hart of Maryland Heights and nowhere near CC.

No it's not. The northern border of Creve Coeur hovers right around Olive, the area just north of that, which is where the park is, is unincorporated and farther north of that is Maryland Heights.
It's not in Creve Coeur or Maryland Heights and its less than 2 miles from Creve Coeur.
If you doubt me, look at St. Louis County's census map: http://www.stlouisco.com/plan/gis/ma...lities1990.pdf

CC Mill Road and Olive Street is still within the boundaries of Creve Coeur. If you go down CC Mill Road - the back entrance to the park is just 1.5 miles.
