Moving to the Pacific, Mo area
Thinking about Pacific, Washington, or Union area. Anybody out there that can tell me some pros and cons about these Missouri towns.? It's just the two of us and our dogs. A Jack Russel and an American Bulldog. We also love to golf!

Other than being rather far away from the city's amenities, large growth over the last decade and the schools for the most part being about average, I can't think of any major negatives.

Of the three, Washington will have the most amenities within the city itself. There is a great little downtown area with a nice view of the Missouri river. I have also found the people in Washington to be very friendly.

Thanks for the info. Have to say Washington is probably our first choice just for the reasons you have mentioned. Only thing we are conceerned with is possible flooding from the river. Any thoughts on that issue? My husband and I are both just senior citizens so knowing that Washington is friendly is certainly a plus. At present,we know no one from the area. My husbands work forces a move. Have you been in Washington very long?

Most of the older, downtown section of Washington is built pretty high up and shouldn't flood. Some of the lower buildings right by the river do flood. Be sure and ask your real estate agent and your insurance agent about flood risks and flood insurance, and you will get a pretty good idea whether your chosen house will be at risk.
If you are in the area right now, the river is up pretty high so you can see what a normal flood stage looks like.
I don't live in Washington; I live in south St. Louis. However, I have spent some time in the Washington area, and I like it quite a bit.

I have lived in Washington all my life. I'm in my 30's & love it. It has grown tremendously in the last few years. We now have many amenities that used to be found only in the city. We have excellent schools and it's a great place to raise a family as well as a great place for couples & singles. You get the mix of a small town feel with city amenities. Another bonus is that it's close to the wineries & relatively close to Chesterfield, St. Charles & STL city. I would be happy to provide more information at your request.

Another vote for Washington... even tho' their HS football team not just beat but slaughtered my alma mater every year Seriously, very good area - indeed, has grown quite a bit, but still has its smaller town charm. As mentioned above, its close to other scenic areas too. Good luck!

Flooding would probably be more of an issue in older parts of Pacific. Areas to the west of old town Pacific are much higher that do not flood.

Got to take a good look at the Washington,Pacific, and Union area. Have definately decided that Washington is the right place for us if we transfer to the area. Certainly hope we do. Like the area and the people very much. Lovely picturesque area and helpful friendly people.
