I'm not sure I believe this.
As far as the whole plan (or should we step back and call it a "vision)? Let's call me skeptical but intrigued.

If Paul McKee does what he says, I am behind him.
But his reputation of destroying North City homes has me a bit skeptical.

McKee plans to put a few million dollars of his own money into the project but expects taxpayers to put over a billion dollars into the project. The math just doesn't work out for anyone other than McKee. Public funding shouldn't result in private fortune making, especially not at the scale McKee proposes.
McKee says thats he desires to help the city but if you look at the way he has purposely allowed a vast swath of NStl properties to deteriorate, it is impossible to believe him.

When I read the story in the PD, I was appalled! I knew the no-good SOB was gonna do something rotten, but I did not think it would be as bad as this.
The things he has done to the existing infrastructure goes beyond anything I have ever heard of in any urban-renewal project.
Just a thought here...... do you think that all the bricks that have been rustled in that area will somehow find their way back home?

North St. Louis McEagle plan unveiled tonight - St. Louis Business Journal:
North St. Louis McEagle plan unveiled tonight
Quote:
McKee said he hopes to capitalize on the region's efforts to establish air freight and trade partnerships with China as a way to land major companies for the development.
As McKee and his company bought up North Side properties over the past five years for a total of 930 parcels, residents raised fears over eminent domain and what they called a plan "to bulldoze the ghetto."
But McKee said he had to stay quiet about his plans for the properties to avoid a run-up in sale prices. "It's a dilemma," he said. "When people like me buy ground, the price will change if they know it's you. We've been buying for five years and now it's time to bring our vision to the community."

It seems like the current plan gives a ton of revenue to McEagle through government handouts and middle man style bid-ask spread profiteering. It sounds too much like upper class welfare and the fact that McKee has no respect for North St Louis makes the whole thing stink even worse.
Here’s a link to McKee’s mansion in Huntleigh, not bad:

Yeah, I would hate to see a lot of cheap wood frame, vinyl siding cookie-cutter homes go up in the north side. If they want to build new housing, at least build the new homes to be almost identical to the older architecture, complete with the red brick.

Pruitt Igoe II
Maybe they can put a new MLS-level soccer stadium there?
