Place to live near SLU?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and I'm starting at SLU in the fall as a grad student. I'm looking for an apartment as close to SLU as possible. Does anyone know a good apartment complex to recommend? I'm looking to live in a 1-bedroom furnished apartment. I was hoping some locals familiar with the area would be able to help or recommend a building. Thanks for the help!

I can't think of any apartments with furnished options that aren't corporate relo style units that are horrifically expensive.

i believe Gentry's landing downtown may have furnished apartments last i looked, which was a few years ago. Its like a 3 or 4 minute drive from SLU, plus its downtown so there may be much going on down there! I also go to SLU, and live in the central west end, not sure of any furnished places around here, but its a great school

I think you would be better served renting a place and going on craigslist to buy furniture. I think the Tower Grove area (specifically near Arsenal and Grand) would be a great place, has many apartments and Tower Grove offers a fun place to meet folks through their various kickball, softball or other recreational leagues (and their farmer's market). The 70 bus would then take you right to SLU.
Good luck.

Agreed. Some of the rents in the various areas around Tower grove are a lot less expensive than the campus apartment areas.

I just had this same problem at the beginning of the summer. I moved out here from Delaware to work for Monsanto and take class at SLU. I live at Grand View Tower Apartments. Its right across from SLU at the Grand and Forest Park intersection. I walk to SLU everyday and it takes maybe 5 mins. Its also only a 5 min walk to the Grand metrolink. Grocery stores and everything are pretty close. I dont have a car, and everything is in decent walking distance or available by metro. Best part is rent is real cheap...I have a studio including all my utilities for $565 a month ( $50 charge each month for my short term lease). They have 1 br too. IDK take a look at the website. I have been here two weeks and love it

Hey, thanks! I've looked into it. The website makes it seem nice, and I plan on going over there to look at it sometime in the next week or so.
Thanks to everyone else too. Finding an apartment near campus was harder than I thought it would be. I'm also not going to have a car, and will really need to use the MetroLink to get around. I think I'll just get furniture and stuff when I get there since furnished places seem a lot harder to come by. Well, thanks again for all the advice from everyone. It looks like it's going to work out well. Hopefully, I'll have my new lease signed in just a couple weeks!
