I used to live there. It's safe, but the areas with a lot of apartments can be somewhat sketchy. There are some nice neighborhoods that are worth checking out, especially the ones around Oakville high school. If you have kids and want the typical suburban fare then you will be happy in Oakville. Nothing really special or worth noting though.

Oakville: nice, peacefull, quiet (just stay out of the apartment complexes), cheaper than most of the county. I am staying there (close to Oakville HS) until I find a place of my own.

I grew up in Oakville near the senior high and it was great. Very suburban and family oriented, I do however agree with Boomboxer about the apartments. My 1/2 brother is 18 and hangs out with a lot of kids in the nearby apartments. His friends are all pretty sketchy if you ask me. It's a nice area to raise a family though as a whole and more affordable then West County. Also a better location if you ask me, getting downtown is fast

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a city hall. It is really an "official" town? I live 1 block from Oakville H.S., but my address is St. Louis, MO. I always thought is was an unincorporated part of St. Louis county.

Jokeville is a "CDP" or "Census Designated Place;" that is to say it is a type of place identified by the US Census Bureau (yet another complete waste of tax revenue) for statistcal purposes.

Yes, Oakville is just a Census Designated Place, so it's not officially a town, but I see a lot of mail addressed to Oakville, MO, so it doesn't really matter.

I grew up (partially) in Oakville and I used to hate it, but I have come to appreciate it. Over all, it's a very nice area. There are some areas (northern part of Oakville) that are not so great, but most of Oakville is fine. And there are certain pockets of extreme wealth, like along Christopher Road. Like a previous poster said, it's mostly run of the mill suburbia, nothing too exciting, but there are some really nice people, and it shouldn't be too hard to make friends.
