Does Anyone Know?
Can someone help me? I grew up in Tower Grove South, but hung out on the other side of the Park. The boys were cuter. Anyhow, there was an area on Magnolia between 39th Street and Tower Grove Baptist Church where there were a group of little houses that formed a sort of cul-de-sac. I always thought it looked like something out of a Fairy Tale.
On a recent trip back, we drove by and I saw it is still there and I thought the sign said it was Hasock Place or something like that. I did not get a good look. Anyone know what I'm talking about? It's right in the middle of the block and is just charming. I'd love to know the history of this sweet little "Village" and how it came to be.

It's called Heger Court and just west of it is another charming cul de sac: Gurney Court. Go to maps.google.com: Heger Court, 63110
I don't know the particular history of those two cul de sacs but here's a link to the history of the Shaw Neighborhood:

Thank you. I appreciate the information, but Heger is too far down Magnolia. This court is between 39th Street and Tower Grove Baptist Church which would be Tower Grove Ave. I looked at the google map and Heger is not it. But, you did give me more to go on and I truly appreciate the help and info. Thanks again.

Are you thinking of Magnolia Place which is between Lawrence and Thurman? I LOVE that one block of Arts & Crafts bungalows....
Or is it Hortus Court?

It could be. I found it on Google. 3856 Magnolia. I can see it with the Street view, but the sign is too small to read. It gives me something to go on as I want to keep my eyes peeled for possible homes to buy in that little area. It is so charming.
I'd have never found it short of coming back to St. Louis without your help. Thank you!

Aw, pshaw...
I used to live in the Shaw neighborhood, some 16 years ago - the apartment building @ Lawrence and Flad -; in addition to walking around Flora Place I'd wander down to Magnolia Place and walk that block, admiring the bungalows.

Isn't it funny how we walk past something everyday and don't see it? As kids we walked Magnolia several times a week and yet, when I came back for a visit with my sister last October, she had absolutely no memory of that little cove of bungalows. She said I was crazy and there was no such thing. We drove over and spent over a half hour exploring that darling little village. She just kept saying, "Well, I'll be darned. I never saw this." Can't really hold it against her. As I've mentioned, the boys on that side of the Park were really cute and she was probably too busy scoping them out.
Retirement is creeping up and even though I've been in Michigan for nearly 40 years, my heart is still and always will be in St. Louis. It's home. I'd love to come back there for my "Golden Year." Lord knows Michigan has little to offer anymore.
Thanks again for your help. I would have never found it without your suggestions.
