renovation materials (St. Louis, Maryland Heights, Creve Coeur: houses, neighborhood, live)

Hi all!

I posted on here back when we were looking for houses in St. Louis and got such fabulous advice, that I thought I'd ask a few more questions. We ended up in this amazing neighborhood in between Page and Olive just west of 270. It's in the St. Louis County right between Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights.

Now that we are properly settled and done the initial painting, we are looking to start renovating the bathrooms. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a place to look for tiles and faucets and such? We are willing to do the installations ourselves, but would love to know if there are places with either really good selections or really good prices (or both)! We've been to HD and Lowes, but would love a larger more eclectic selection.

On a side note, I've heard of a place called Hood outlet on the board in regards to renovations but have no idea what they sell. Anyone care to explain?

We were able to get porcelain tiles at $0.79/sf. They were factory seconds, but we put them in our garage and they look great.

The people at hoods are willing to deal to move inventory.

There are other stores in the area so you may have to shop around. They have a loose "confederation of stores, and I'm not really sure how they all relate to each other.

The Hoods in our neck of the woods (Foristell) is totally different. Its more of a materials recycling operation, but they do have new items. All of it very inexpensive. If you need real wood doors and are willing to do some extra prep work yourself, you can save a lot of money.

Habitats for humanity also does some materials recycling
