From Austin, Tx to St. Louis MO
I am being considered for a position within Monsanto. The salary is close to $80K. Would this offer a comfortable lifestyle in St. Louis?
I welcome unbaised opinions on areas of town to live in or avoid, demographics, recreation, schools for young kids (6 year old with Aspergers, 4 year, 2 year old, and 3 months). Wife has a job that may be transferable to STL.
Thanks in advance for your insight!!

Some others here could help you on the schools.
I've never bought with this site, but it's interesting to browse.
Coldwell Banker Gundaker -- Your site for St. Louis Real Estate
City schools, unless you can afford private or get into magnet schools, are not very good (from my understanding)
According to this site:
Cost of living: Compare prices in two cities - CNNMoney.com
$80,000 salary in St. Louis is comparable to $85,000 in Austin, so it should be about the same for both cities.
I think some of the more expensive suburbs will be places like Chesterfield and Ladue. But there are quite a few cheaper suburbs as well. I'm not sure how home prices equate to school quality, though.
Is your Asperger's child in any kind of special program (like Autistic kids often are)? If so, you may want to look for schools that are strong in that program.

Thanks for responding!! He is currently in a program to help him integrate into a regular classroom. He has an aide available to him as needed. Hopefully he will not need the aide very soon.
I will check out those suburbs. How about St. Charles/ St. Peters MO 63301 , 63303?
Any good non-denominational Christian churches?

Creve Coeur is the place. Nice area. You zip down Olive (some traffic, but not too overwhelming), and you're at Monsanto in a matter of minutes.
Stay out of Olivette, it's going bad.

You might consider Des Pere (da pair) or Fenton if you want to look a little further out.
I am a big fan of Rockwood schools, both my kids went to Summit and had a great experience.

My sisters kid has Aspergers. It gets a little rough, doesn't it?
What kind of work do you do? What do you like doing for fun?. How far to you wish to commute?
I've been a bit rough on on the area on my postings, but I'm trying to be better. I am still suffering a major culture shock since moving out here.
That being said, I'm a big promoter of Lake Saint Louis. (just like every here will endorse their own town). I did some contract work at Monsanto, and It only took me 35 minutes to get there in the Morning. The ride home was a bit rougher, but it still me well under an hour. If your home is in the CA boundaries, you have access to two lakes, a golf, swimming pools and Tennis. When your kids a b it older, they can enjoy all kinds of activities and programs.
The down side is if you like to hit the clubs or enjoy fine dining its a little scarce around here.

You would be comfortable making 80,000 in St Louis.

Yes Apergers is terrible but I thank God my son does not have Autism. I am a VoIP telecom Engineer and I am a family man...so that pretty much says it all. Less than 30 mins commute is desirable.
