In Depth: Best Cities For Singles 2009 - No. 23: St. Louis, Mo. - Forbes.com

These Forbes lists are usually garbage and this one probably is too, but it's nice to make a good list every once in a while. I always thought St. Louis was a pretty good place for singles even though the common conception is that St. Louis is parochial and family-oriented.

I mean you have the CWE, Soulard, the Loop, the landing, Washington, Westport etc...all places crawling with singles on an average night. Not to mention about a million small coffee shops, Forest Park, Tower Grove, and area universities that are great for meeting new people. It also reflects well on the city since obviously singles prefer the city over the suburbs, so I am pretty happy about our place on this list.

the list seems pretty trivial but it'd be nice to rank higher than Milwaukee which is 9th I believe. All in all St. Louis still seems like family town USA.

CWE, The Landing and the other spots you mentioned are great but how often is that side of St. Louis in mainstream media? Never.

St. Louis needs a reality show. Real Housewives of St. Louis or Real World St. Louis -- an entire season highlighting St. Louis.

Don't worry though the city won't look bad it'll be the people on the show themselves.

Before I got married in 2006, I found St. Louis to be a great place to be single. Good nightlife, lots to do, plenty of other singles, and easy to live a very comfortable lifestyle on not much money.

I agree...got places for all age groups...for me Landing was always place to go when you just turn 21...Soulard is mostly 21-25, CWE is mid to late 20's

I have some pretty good job opportunities in St. Louis right now.....I'm originally from the Chicago area and moved to Texas last year. It seems funny to me I might be moving right back the way I came from...

Personally, I didnt like being single in the chicago area, and I don't really like the people much in that area anyway. I went to school in central illinois though and I like there...

I just am afraid that at 32 single female....I might waste away in St. Louis with maybe a few cats....

you all seem to be saying this is not true?

I have some opporunities with the NGA and military (I'm a contractor) great opportunities just not so sure about the location.

Not sure why you picked Milwaukee. I've lived in both Milwaukee and St. Louis among other places, and Milwaukee does a good job of connecting urban neighborhoods. Milwaukee also I believe has more bars and restaurants per capita than any other city except Las Vegas in the U.S. which I'm sure factored into the list.

These are of course arbitrary lists to sell magazines.

St. Louis = a decent stock of women. Sometimes walking around makes me miss my single days. Then I remember I have a great wife
