I have charter internet and so far so good.

I have heard horrible stories from neighbors etc. IF you have a problem, their customer service is really lacking and it will take a LONG time to get it straightened out.

My neighbor had tv/internet and they were getting the previous owner's bill somehow. For months this went on and Charter kept threatening to cut it off if they didn't pay it, and since they needed it for work, they just kept paying it and hoping to resolve it in person. They never settled it until she threatened legal action and magically they figured her bill out properly.

I have internet and T.V. with charter and I use vonage for phone service. I started this before cable offered digital phone in my area and have been happy enough not to change it. Our digital cable with premium package and
5m down speed internet is around 88 a month and Vonage is around 35. with taxes.

Ya, I agree that they are not the easiest to work with when it comes to billing problems. But everytime I call them to cancel a part of our service they give me a new and better package for less, to the relief of my kids, lol. The kids don't even cringe when I say I am going to call cable anymore. Now they get excited and wonder what new and better thing we will have for 6 months! I haven't ran into a company so willing to give you the best deal.

i used to have dish network - and so hated it. switched to charter and things have been great. they gave me an hd-dvr, all premium movie channels (hbo etc), all hd channels & dsl for $118 all taxes included. never had a problem with customer service - maybe I am one of the lucky ones.

Hi Guys,

I was hoping to get some help here. I moved to St. Louis recently and now I'm caught between Charter cable and DISH TV. Does anyone have had any problem with satellite TV due to weather or customer service? How's charter here? What would you go for internet? Cable or SBC DSL?

Any advice would be really helpful.

SBC provides bundles. Charter provides bundles. In the past had Charter bundles (they were okay, not really thrilled with their capabilities). Thru SBC have had bundles using: Dish and Direct, liked SBC service best. Now using Dish and pleased with the results. Wasn't unhappy with Direct either, as long as I went thru SBC.

I have had Charter cable, Internet and phone service for awhile. I would say it has been 99% reliable. The only real problem is when the power is out for extended periods my phone backup battery runs dry, and then I can't use my landline. But hey, isn't that what cell phones are for???

I had AT&T dsl for 3 years...... very, very rarely ever down. Speeds were decent.

We moved to another area of the STL metro, where DSL is not available, so we had to go with Charter for high speed internet access. We've lived here 2 months now, and the net has been down at least once a week, and one time, it was down from midnight on a thurs to 2 pm on friday. I work from home over the net, and I was furious! I had to work from St Louis Bread company that friday. 3 years on DSL= no problems, 2 months with Charter= lots of problems. I've actually had to add their service number to my contact list on my cell phone, pathetic. Can't wait for a better option to become available for high speed internet in my area.

Also, speeds get slower than DSL during peak hours. Very frustrating trying to get work done during peak hours over their cable net.

The number of HD channels they offer is Very low compared to dish or even other cable companies across the country. And their customer service, like stated many times above, is a trainwreck.

heres more info on my experience with both dish and charter. I had dish for one year. during that time whenever it snowed, iced or there was lightning my dish was out. That includes thanksgiving day when my entire family flew in fromout of state and we couldnt watch the game because conditions were unfavourable. The dish guy came to fix and replace parts 4 times in 12 months, and the 5th time he came he wanted 75 bucks because the parts were out of warranty. I asked hime to take the dish and all its related junk and leave. I hated everything about it, had to use a rabbit antenna for local channels, hated the menu , hated having to aquire a satellite signal every week etc. good riddance.

switched to charter inspite of all its horror stories. have all the local and hd channels, not a single outage, customer service has always been great for me ( I try to be as nice as I can over the phone and it works), the moxi menu sysytem is the best in the industry (family members who live across the country all say that the cable I have is thebest they have seen), internet service rarely if ever goes down and I use vonage as my primary phone. i dread having to move somewhere and being stick with timewarner etc, their cable sucks. And the DVR that charter provides is great. For $118 i get all the HD channels, HD DVR, all the premium movie channels, and the 5mb DSL.
