Well I guess everybody has their own experiences. I know this all just started happening to us after moving to the Lou so i'm still very hot and heated but living in this city irritates me every day. If and when I can get out of my lease I will most definately be moving out of this city. Of course the whole city is not like this but even Forest Park area, where even wealthy folks live, they are having more and more break ins. Don't get me wrong there was a time I loved the Lou and couldn't wait to get back to the big, bright city but then I moved here.

Break-ins happen everywhere, including Chesterfield. Perhaps you should have done more research on the part of the city you were moving to.
Have you ever lived in other cities? I think you would find that its more of the same most places you go. Every city has its bad parts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is no crime, but there are plenty of areas that would be just fine.
It sounds as if you should either fine a nicer area or move back to the small town. Some people are just happier in a smaller environment.

And you guys thought I rant?
Sorry, I think your problem is that you moved into a crummy ghetto. and that problem is not St. Louis' alone. If you live in any urban environment you should expect the crime rate to be higher (Someone even blew up a car in my old neighborhood in Pittsburgh).
You loose me when you use words and phrases such as "cuz" or "...both me and my boyfriends car..."
I'll let you slide on "theifs"

What's a "quite" neighborhood? Is that a neighborhood that exceeds a normal or standard definition of a neighborhood?

Of course, you have people doing good and working for their own but for the majority people in St. Louis stand around with their hands out. When I visited my uncle in San Fran it amazed me the differences between homeless people there and in the Lou. In San Fran they simply sit alongside the buildings, come to St. Louis and they'll bring their problems to your face and your car door. At just one gas station I was approached by 4 people begging for money. You can't even get a penny from a gas station cuz even they are too poor to even have that little change bucket just in case your short a penny.

You live in the wrong neighborhood. I live in Dogtown (inside the city limits) and it seems very safe (hate to say its super-safe and then get my car broken in to). Lots of kids playing in the streets, people walking their dogs at night by themselves, etc. Also, I have yet to see a single panhandler in the city of St. Louis, and I've been here over a month...the homeless problem here is nothing compared to the past two cities I've lived in which had some VERY aggressive career panhandlers.
Living inside the city limits can be very safe, very convenient, very cheap, and very fun. I wouldn't live any other way (besides possibly an inner-ring suburb). You just have to pick the right neighborhood and take precautions. Do not leave valuables out in your car, watch where you park, and use common sense.

Got me. I knew that would happen.
Thats why I gave her the bye on "theifs". We all make mistakes. I'm horrible on the keyboards.
But at least give me credit for not joining in on the rant.

You remind me of another person I met who wasn't from the area, rented a house in Dutchtown (one of the worst south city neighborhoods around when it comes to crime), and put her kids in public school in the city with 0 research. Then she said "I had no idea the city was like this." My response was "The city isn't like this, but this neighborhood is."
Unfortunately in Dogtown I have had some frustrating things happen to my personal property, but I still wouldn't consider it even close to dangerous, and would still be quick to recommend it to people.
If you live in an urban area, ANY urban area, you may as well figure on it happening. If it didn't happen in January, it might happen in February. You can't live in the rose-colored-glasses version of the world that some of those in Chesterfield may live in the city, and it's pretty darn stupid that people do that in Chesterfield, too. A few months back there was a rash of car break ins in one of the burbs like Maryland Heights or Chesterfield, and it was because some of the people were literally leaving their garage doors open overnight. Surprise, they got their stuff broken in to and couldn't figure out how those things could happen in Utopia. Don't worry though, I'm sure many of them have picked up and moved to Wentzville and Troy by now.
