I didn't create this forum so I can't tell you what the person who created it was thinking it should be used for. But I can tell you that the vast majority of posts here are about visiting the area, relocating, places/services in the area, and general information about St. Louis. You come here to do nothing but post negative things about the area. It's just like going over to a forum about baseball and complaining about why you think baseball sucks. That's called trolling. If that's how you want to spend your time, then fine. But don't expect the people who love this area to just sit idly by while you spew negative comments about everything relating to St. Louis (except that small lake town in northwest St. Charles county). Of course they are going to be defensive. They spend a lot of time, effort, and money to improve this area little by little, which by the way, takes a lot more effort than making some comments on a message board. That's not to say we aren't aware of our regions bad attributes, they are worth mentioning and discussing as well, but they aren't the entire picture and they aren't the complete "reality" as you like to put it.
I think St. Louis is fantastic and will spend my life making it a better place because whether you agree or not, it really is a special place.

I agree. As a lifer, I have pondered moving several times over the years. When it comes down to it... St Louis has pros and cons like every other city. As far as raising children, however, it doesn't get much better than this. Our amenities, and inexpensive ones at that, are truly outstanding.

I am a transplant from Chicago, born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. So, your theory is shot. But, I give you an "A" for effort!
You are channeling your negative energy in an online forum, which is fine, because that is your choice. Personally, I would rather go for a jog, but to each his own.
I find St. Louis to be the city that fits me the best of those I have lived in. My opinion is that it is more unique than obscure towns in New York, whether they benefit from proximity to other large cities or not.
I think you should try living in the city before passing judgment from 40 miles away.

You haven't read my posts. I am in the city almost every day (this week I'm in California. I've mentioned that Saint Louis is a huge step up from Columbus, OH. (and I really do like Columbus) but if that is your benchmark, you have already started with a low bar.
I've been here a year and I really don't see anything special about the city. If I were to give saint louis a flavor, it would be vanilla. Maybe you should go to that obscure city in New York and take in the true natural beauty of the Hudson Valley (especially northern Dutchess County and the Catskill Mountains).

Dinsdale, you have said that you have not explored very much of the state.....please stop casting aspersions on things you know nothing about. Go out and explore Missouri, its full of "true natural beauty", and then get back to us .

You live in Lake St. Louis. And, nothing against Lake St. Louis, but you are a 45 minutes or so from St. Louis.

I have lived in all parts of the city. I now live in West County, a fantastic place to raise my children, but NOT the same as living central. If we didn't venture out regularly towards the "epicenter"... I could see life in St Louis as being bland, as well. We may live here, but most of our activities, dining, and social excursions are further east.
Per natural beauty Pirahna... try Johnson SHut-ins, the Elephant Rocks, and Onondaga Cave. The area has a lot to offer, but sometimes you have to trek a bit. That being said, if you are a mountain person, Missouri will definitely disappoint!

Well, I agree St Louis is a step up from Columbus...that is why I am here. Further, you conveniently left out the fact that I lived in Chicago for 3 years. But, in any event, you are misguided. I stated my former residences not as a benchmark, but as proof that I am not a native with inherent defense mechanisms.
I am sure Poughskeepie is a lovely town. I am also sure that if I lived there and didnt like it, I wouldnt spend all day libeling the city. And, by the way, beautiful or not, its still completely irrelevant every time you bring the place up.
Writing negative things on this site can mean only one of two things:
1) You are offended by those who actually like St. Louis.
2) You are miserable.
I will be slightly empathetic though as I have driven through your neck of the woods a few times. But, I am glad to hear you are "embracing the suck."
