I really don't think that is the reason people move out here. I would think that newly built affordable housing would be the primary reason.

I live in Lake Saint Louis, and there are plenty of black families around here and in Wentzville.

And I wouldn't exactly say that Saint Louis has the "Hustle and Bustle" that people need to get away from.

While some may move out there for more band for their buck a lot also move out there to remove themselves from the Black race. I know many who have moved out there just because of it. Take a look around and see how many NOCO transplants live there.

I have lived in St. Louis my whole life- granted that's only 19 years, but After having moved to TN last fall for college, I realized how amazing St. Louis is and how much I've really taken it for granted. Positives:
-Lots of free attractions and cheap things to do
-Easy to get around, not bad traffic at all. I live in Eureka but I drive into the city at least once a week
-Lots of open space and hills in far West county out toward wildwood- i love driving around and just enjoying how pretty it is

Downfalls:
-Some parts of St. Louis are ROUGH
-St Louis is a really racially divided city.. I never realized it until I came to Tennessee and thought it was weird to see a healthy mix of black and white people everywhere.
All in all, I LOVE St. Louis, and think it is a great city.

"Hustle and bustle" is subjective. I work with plenty of people who live in St Charles, Creve Coeur, and Maryland Heights who think that traffic problems are in the city while I find it to be quite the opposite. While St Louis obviously is not going to have the "h & b" of LA, Chicago, or NYC, to a native who has never lived anywhere else, St Louis is "very busy." You'll never hear me complaining about traffic in St Louis, and I'm from a small town of 7,000 100 miles from here.

If you take out the big cities and immediate surrounding areas, you take out about 70% of the US population. Land area wise, there is more 'red territory', as in counties, etc, with not many people, but there certainly aren't that many more conservative people to match the territorial disparity.

I've never seen a city so easy to move around in during rush hour.

What kept me here was the great cost of living given the surroundings. And the lack of traffic. St Louis has so much to offer in the city, yet the housing/rental prices are so low compared to Chicago.

That said, I have way too many native StL area friends who fled the city immediately because its "too dangerous." I miss Chicago and the fact that pretty much everyone wants to live in the city while they're young--here many of my friends moved right to the suburbs. I often feel like the lone person that would actually love to stay in the city.

Knd of know what you mean. Did the Urban Living in DC and Pittsburgh loved it, but I was also 20-25 years old. It was great having all your hangouts in a local area.

I really loved living in smaller "villages" (Port Jefferson, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach) most of the amenities of the larger cities in more intimate surroundings, plus the marinas and beaches. (and in reality when you do opt to live in urban areas, you do tend "live" in a localized area, which is essentially a village anyway).

Now I'm in the burbs. I do miss being able to walk to the clubs and restaurants, but I do enjoy the fact that I can walk to the docks.
