Your ignorance is so not worth a response, but I am native to St. Louis and make a living selling all parts of this city EVERY DAY while you dip your toes in a lake 40 minutes west of it. For you to criticize anyone's knowledge of St. Louis is just offensive and uncalled for.

Some of us are trying to be helpful, while you do nothing but criticize people and their opinions on your Lake St Louis podium. We got it. Good grief. Move on.

I am not even going to go into the accuracy of wikipedia.

Being from NY (and Long Island is essentially a piece of Israel that broke of and floated west) it was always "Tsatke".

And like many foreign words originally written in different alphabets (in this case Cyrillic) it will translate differently into the Roman alphabet. (the same logic can be used to understand why Al-Quida is spelled a least 5 different ways (but all translating to filthy dirty ar$ewipe). Enough about that.

I think I know Saint Charles pretty well. My mother in law lives about 1/2 mile from that area. No offence intended, but I'm Probably more familiar with the area than someone that has spent the last X years in Florida or a real estate agent that needs to move property.

We thought of (and CAREFULLY researched) the Downtown Saint Charles Area. We really liked the area, but it is pleasant only on the surface. We did not opt to buy because many of those gorgeous victorians need a lot of work. We were also not too crazy about the tourist trap ambience of the area. We lived in Huntington Beach when we were first married. Same bar oriented tourist trap type environment. Every weekend there was a AVP, Surfing or some sort of XGAMES tournament going on. Its fun when you don't have to get in and out of the area.

Then think how much fun it is to find some drunken yahoo from Pomona passed out on your lawn, puking in your trash can (if you are lucky) or peeing on the side of your house when the bars close.

Go down to Downtown Saint Charles about 1 am on a friday or saturday night. Maybe we just caught it on a bad night, but it wasn't pretty.

I did mention NewTown. Yeah, its a prefab community, but I liked the overall direction of the plan. For someone from Southern California, all the new builds in a planned environment will seem very familiar. In twenty years it will be a nice established community. I woud say give that one a chance. The Down side is that NewTown is on a flood plain.

Hey, we know some of his posts are goofy and provocative, but in this situation the guy's just trying to help, he spent some serious time in SoCal, he's making some sincere suggestions to some other folks from SoCal on where to settle down in our fair region. You wouldn't recommend Kinloch to folks from Salt Lake City, would you?

What does Cyrillic have to do with Yiddish?????? I pulled it up to illustrate the spelling, would this work better for you????
tchotchke - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

All the OP wants is info, all you did was talk about your own bitter unhappiness and self-absorbed interests.
I've been here a year. I'm at my mother-in-laws probably twice a week for dinner or going out. I know my way around pretty well. We actually did a lot of research in the area. Not for us. Just not into the tourist and bar communities anymore. Been there, done that.

I'm not bitter and unhappy. My business is taking off and things are going pretty well. Would I rather be somewhere else. Sure. But this is where I am now and I really do like the community I live in.

I'm just giving my point of view to someone that lives in the area where I spent twenty years of my life, and now wants to relocate to the area I now live in.

I don't think you read or comprehend. You tried to pick a fight yesterday when I brought up branding. Maybe you are just looking to pick a fight with a "transplant" (and you can read a lot into your little phrase of "I think I know it a little better than a transplant")

Trust me. The parochialism of the area does show. And not just from you. I've received a few PMs thanking me for revealing it.

Re: tchotchke: There is no proper way to spell Tchotche/tsatke. It is a transliteration.
More than likely the originally Yiddish was written using a Cyrillic and/or maybe the Hebrew Alphabet. When brought into the Roman (Standard Western European) Alphabet is was spelled in many different ways according the language of the person doing the translation and then trying to spell it phonetically in their native language.

The CH sound has entirely different spellings different western Languages. That's why it is spelled differently. That's what the Cyrillic Alphabet has to do with it.

I appreciate his opinion. That's why people are here. Though statements such as this: "No offence intended, but I'm Probably more familiar with the area than someone that has spent the last X years in Florida or a real estate agent that needs to move property." are just infantile and unproductive.
