Unless you have asthma or something, I don't think it matters. Sounds like some kind of kook conspiracy theory to me "omg the air has gone bad....".

I'll bet it would make a tremendous difference as long as you get a good unit. Alen A350, IQAir HealthPro Plus, Austin Air Healthmate, BlueAir 603 are all the top stand alone units. IQAir also makes a system which you can add on to your existing HVAC system. The best budget unit is the Honeywell 50250-n.
