So I get a ticket in the mail saying that I ran a red light. The letter told me that I had a court date coming up, and that I must attend, because I hadn't paid the ticket yet. Keep in mind, this was the very first notice I received but the letter sounded as if they had informed me and I hadn't responded or paid. So then I get a second letter with hardly any info, saying that my court date had been moved to a month later and if I didn't attend there would be a warrant out for my arrest. I sent in the money, but don't know if I should still go to court. Any advice?

Call the court clerk and make sure they got your payment and applied it against your ticket. Then also verify that you don't have to go since you've paid.

The following is NOT legal advice, nor is it what I recommend to you do... however, w/ that out of the way, me, if I received this ticket, and it was generated by a camera, I would not pay that BS.

When I moved from Stl I received a letter in the mail stating that I did not come to a complete stop at a traffic light, and that I had to pay a fine. I was going to dispute it. However, the letter had a website that I could go to in order to view what the camcorder recorded. To my dismay, it showed me actually running a red light. The only word that came to mind was: BUSTED! I started laughing and then sent my money in.

Sort of unrelated, but when I was in the Chicago suburbs a month or two ago, the red light camera at one of the intersections was malfunctioning, and I saw the flash of it taking pictures of everyone going through a green light. It would really suck if those people actually got a ticket and there was no way of knowing the light was actually green when looking at the video online.

I hate those cameras. Not because I regularly run red lights, but because now people will come to a screeching halt right as the light turns yellow. Can be dangerous is rainy or icy condition.

I think the cameras do more harm than good. At the advertised "camera stoplights" in Brentwood or elsewhere here (like at 170 St. Charles Rock Rd), I don't want a ticket ... so if the light is yellow and I have to make a quick decision - I either do way too quick of a stop or race through the light in hopes of avoiding a ticket (so far, so good). But I'll admit it makes it more dangerous for others when I am trying to avoid the "flash" of the camera.

Due to that there is little to no consistency as to the time length of the yellow light, and any other marker / system to base ones location on given a certain [of course legal] speed PLUS weather conditions, that is one reason why these automatic systems are bogus. The other main one IMHO is that those systems that do not capture the driver, are only ticketing the owner of the vehicle... which is not how our judicial system is meant to operate. To much burden is placed on the owner to prove themselves innocent, instead of the state proving the guilty party.

lol, sorry, kinda off topic with my ranting & raving about this ; haven't really answered your question, 'eh? But, if read between the lines - the answer would be yes, go to court, fight it. Good luck!

It definitely sucks. I got the ticket for turning right on a red light. Apparently, I didn't come to a complete stop before I turned right on red.

Also I don't own the vehicle, so that person is the one who actually received the info and the ticket in the mail. I forgot what the letter said, but I guess if I didn't pay that person would've been arrested and not me.

Last but not least I think the cameras are intrusive. I went online to view the photos and video, and it was so clear that I could see what the people walking on the streets were eating.

Forgive my ignorance but what does that mean?
