Default Saint Louis jobs

So I bought a newspaper on a Thursday to look at the classified section and to my surprise there was no jobs section. The clerk informed me that the St. Louis Dispatch only puts the help wanted jobs ads in the Sunday paper. Is this true? Because I find that hard to believe, but I guess it's possible since there were none listed that day.

So then on Sunday I bought the paper. The amount of jobs in there was just pathetic. There are more jobs in my little hometown paper, and we advertise everyday.

Hmm, interesting. I've never looked--just knew there's a "jobs" link on the STLtoday home page. Ends up it just takes you to a yahoo jobs search. I feel like there was a St Louis Jobs website that used to advertise on the radio, don't remember what it was though..

It wouldn't suprise me if it is the Sunday only edition.
Which, as you stated, has a horrible selection of jobs.

Having relocated back to STL in Spring 09' (it's my hometown and I had lost my job in NYC), I spent 8 months job seeking here.

Try the local Craigslist board but honestly, that's hit or miss. A lot of scam jobs on there. (red flag: anything going to a gmail, yahoo, hotmail address!).

Best bet is applying directly to the companies, whether online, by mail, etc.

Best of luck!

Also try Indeed.com and Linked In on the web. Networking is a great way to secure employment.

The days of advertising jobs in the printed liberal bias newspaper are fading quickly.

Yahoo hot jobs (lots of local positions)
monster and careerbuilder

Klynn has the right approach. Direct contact

and be very careful with craigslist. most of the advertisers are just plain cheap skates and will not pay you what you are worth

Yeah, but it seems like everything is also less personal. Don't you find it tiring sending your resume via computer? I miss the days of going in and talking to the hiring manager face to face. You can at least charm your way in that way, but I feel like just sending a resume over the comp is like a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the great replies everyone.

It is. I've always heard something like 70% of the job market is "hidden," meaning the jobs aren't publicized; they obtained through connections + networking.
