ohh one last question is there any neighborhood mentioned above that I would be more likely to find a place that has some parking (reserved or off street) or is it just hit or miss depending on the particular building?

There places in Soulard that has off street parking. Also some of the lofts downtown have garage parking.

Out of all the areas mentioned, DeMun is by far the best neighborhood if you value walkability to WU and overall safety. There is a coffee shop in the neighborhood, and some other small shops. I lived there a few years back and it was a great experience. Crime was pretty much non-existent, while S-D did have a lot of problems with property crime.

Many of the buildings in DeMum have parking spaces/garages, but for the most part people park on the street. I never had to go more than 1/4 of a block from my place to find a parking spot, and that was really rare. There were almost always parking spots right in front of my building.

Add the Moorlands area of Clayton to your list (Between Clayton Road/Wydown/Hanley). Very safe, on a bus line, and very walkable. I'd be careful of the DeBauliviere/Skinker, but I'm a girl. I'd think Dogtown over Skinker. But welcome and enjoy!
