Well, I'll say this - we are getting some good musical acts here this year (Dave Matthews, Eagles w/Ditzy Chicks, Rush). These combined with our weekly races and local beer festivals will keep us occupied for another summer, until we get to the promised land (CO/WY).

Come on guys I know it's Monday and all but you can't tell I'm being facetious by calling it Lake St. Charles?

And doing exciting things is up to you and it's all relative. I know you like bikes, do you like racing or group rides? I know I've mentioned it to you before but St. Louis has a very good local cycling scene. Check it out at STLbiking.com if you haven't already. No we don't have an ocean but going camping and kayaking is one of my personal favorite things to do.

There is live music all over the city every night of the week, including one of rock n roll's founders Chuck Berry. I would rate the local music scene as good considering I almost never have to travel to see my favorite bands play. Just this past Saturday there was an all day concert at Union Station and Tom's in the CWE to support Prop M. Good times.

Do you like art? The riverfront times runs an Artgasm feature that shows cases local art shows and gallery events opening every week here.

Do you like theatre? Of course St. Louis has the glorious Fox and always fun Muny, but don't rule out smaller productions put on my our local universities.

Do you like...oh I don't know fun? Then check out some of the great festivals that come our way during the warmer months. Everything from the Festival of Nations to wine tasting events to cycling races to just odd random gatherings that pop up all summer long. None of that is "exciting"? Then I don't know what to tell you...but I will say that by living in St. Louis as opposed to a more expensive city, I can afford to visit truly exotic and exciting places in the world I never would be.

Rock climbing. I used to have a membership at Upper Limits Rock Gym. I love that stuff. I haven't done outdoor climbing in a few years, but I still go to the gym semi-frequently, although I don't have the membership thing anymore.

Yes, I know lots of cities have these type of gyms, but I still find it exciting and fun.

You should try it on real rocks someday, it's quite a rush and beats the hell out of a gym.

I mentioned in there that I've done the real deal before, but it's been quite a while... Have never gone in Missouri.

I know people who hunt, although they normally eat the animal as well. There's nothing wrong with hunting, mudding, and all of that stuff. There's nothing else to do down here anyway. Of course, it's a different culture down here. I don't know anybody who drinks and hunts. I think even "ignorant rednecks" generally know better than that. Car racing and dog fighting are not big around here that I know of.

I haven't heard of the things dinsdale has mentioned happening around St. Louis, though.

Really, "boring" is in the eye of the beholder. Some people would be bored in New York City. Others are very happy spending an afternoon in the woods (I'm not a hunter, though).

Question OC vs STL

DP, could you do a pro/con of OC and STL? I live in OC, know STL and looking into downtown STL living. Thanks

Where in OC do you live? As you know places like Anaheim (which in many ways is very similar to Saint Louis, except for home prices) are vastly different to living in a Beach Community

I'm in OC right now, I am seeing homes in Costa Mesa that are going for under 250K.

OC PROS
Activities
Arts / Creativity / Music (most of the clothes you wear, the cars you drive, the music you listen to, the trends you follow are products of Orange County and LA)
Cutting Edge Mentality / willing to try new ideas, take risks
Health Conscious
More accepting to new comers
Sincere people
More readily available variety (Shopping, Groceries, Restaurants, Cuisine)
Natural Beauty, Oceans, Mountains, Hills, Canyons

Saint Louis Pros:
Very Light traffic. Even in rush hour conditions, a 30 mile commute will take about 45 minutes, and rush hour is usually between 8am - 9am / 4:30pm and 6 pm (IN LA/OC the only real break on the freeways is between 10am and 3pm, and between 7:30 pm and 5 am.)
Cheap homes
Agreeable population

I strongly believe that the next generation of STL is changing STL for the better. It seems to me that the baby boomer generation has held STL back for years. That age group seems to be living in the 80's and 90's. They don't want to believe that STL city is an awesome place to live. Most seemed to be content fleeing the city, taking up in the burbs and talking about the glory days. Of course not everyone is like this, but from what I have noticed.
The younger generation is pro-STL. I have very few friends left in the burbs, and the ones that live there are almost embarrassed to say they do. We are taking a chance and cleaning up the neighborshoods left behind, opening restaurants, art galleries, businesses, using public transportation, and all around making STL city a thriving place to be. I believe the "Where did you go to highschool?" will die with the older generation.

St. Louis isn't very exciting. I live in Denver, Colorado. Way more excitement and energy here.
