Giant sigh of relief. I was getting worried reading the P-D comment craziness prior to the vote.

Very happy about this. Not only did it pass but it did so by a pretty big margin as well.

This is a huge win for mass transit in the St. Louis region and it shows that St. Louis, especially in the county, is not accurately reflected in newspaper comment sections

You guys really love transit? Im a bit suprised , i wish other cities in the region would model themselves after you guys. Maybe once you guys get True-HSR between ST. Louis and Chicago i might move there.

^Yes much of the United States is behind the times with the rest of the industrialized world when it comes to transportation issues. Automobiles are great but we have to start emphasizing alternatives.

As for HSR between Chicago and St. Louis, it's going to happen:

High-speed rail link to Chicago gets funds - STLtoday.com (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/politics/story/70C0E5503069528E862576B9001176B5?OpenDocument - broken link)

I don't always agree with how stimulus funds are spent, but this is the kind of investment that pays off big time. Just think of the cost savings here over air travel and trucks! Not to mention less traffic, less fuel consumption, quick and cheap movement of goods and people.

Our new investment of Metro will provide the same kind of benefits, although the emphasis is more on people than goods (obviously :P)
