I, too, am moving from Chicago to St. Louis in July to teach. Bella84, I'm guessing we're in the same program. I visited St. Louis and drove around to a bunch of neighborhoods with a St. Louis native. Something to keep in mind is that, assuming you're doing TFA, we will likely be placed in north city schools (unless we get suburban placements). Since you have a car, I'm not sure how much the distance of commute matters to you, but Central West End is likely to be a bit closer than the southwest areas. Someone also posted on TFAnet about looking for a roommate to live in that area.

Thanks for your input, matriarco. I'm actually not doing Teach for America though. The school I will be working at is in south city, which is why I am looking for a place to live in the previously mentioned areas. I grew up in St. Louis but spent most of my youth living in the suburbs. Having spent the past eight years living in Illinois, I'm just not sure what the neighborhoods in the city are like anymore. My parents are of some help, but they moved out of the city back in the 80's.... So, if anyone else can help me, particularly with recommending an agency or organization that lists rentals, it would be much much appreciated. Thanks all! Good luck with TFA, matriarco!

Check out www.millsproperties.net. They have apartments all over St. Louis, MO. I currently work at one in University City called Hafner Court. Not congested, close to the Highway, and close to the nightlife on the Delmar Loop(which is popular for it's cute shops, restaurants, concert venue, and nightlife scene). It is also affordable. You can check it out on the Mills Website, along with their 20 or so other St. Louis properties. Hope this info was useful.

I recommend Soulard. A lot of younger people and a great neighborhood. Also a lot of transplants have settled in Soulard in the past 5-10 years.

These are all great suggestions. I live in University City and love it. I found my St. Louis Apartment through Barron Realty. They were really helpful!
I think they have apartments all over town. Check it out: St Louis Apartments | Apartments for Rent in St Louis | Barron Realty
