This expensive Subaru coupe had funky styling, auto transmission with shift up/down buttons on the shifter and a boxer 6 cylinder. Just saw the YouTube Motorweek video test drive. 0-60 was in the 8 second range due to vehicle weight and 4 speed auto. Handling was very good and 60-0 stopping was 98 feet. But 1991 prices started at $25,000. Have any of you ever drove one or seen any on the road lately?
My dad had one for a while, actually two of them one right after the other after he totaled the first one. (He was mostly fine but the car was declared total loss.) This was still over 10 years ago when they weren't quite as old. He bought them used. Funny that I don't much remember riding in them, but I'm sure I must have a few times. Never drove it though that I can remember.
My cousin who was a Subaru corporate mechanic (was based at HQ in Cherry Hill and flew all over to diagnose 'problems') bought a slightly used 1991 SVX in 1993 and still has it. Quirky is the right word, lol. He also had a Brat for a while, the pickup with the rear facing jump seats in the bed. There's nothing special about the SVX at all, aside for the fact it draws a lot of stares. It's slow, but it does handle and brake well.
I used to see one on my daily commute, now its gone. Heavy, slow and quirky - not particularly desirable IMO. I've never seen one at shows either, I would think some hard core Subaru-head would have had one twin turbo charged or swapped in a modern STI direvtrain into one by now, but I haven't come across it yet- worth googling i guess...
Sounds somewhat like the XT turbo. Its turbo, so it must be fast right? I never looked it up , but I would guess 0-60 in 12 seconds. Like the SVX it had all kinds of oddball features, many of which did not work.
a good family friend had two of them...nevermind, three. his first was gorgeous but he ditched it cause he miles were getting high, the replacement was a POS and the third was "ok" but he didnt hang onto it long. i rode jn them a few times and always thought they were unique, although the windows were funky. the car was alright...but not the most inspiring of that time period.
