Crosstrek because you can get it with a manual transmission and not that awful CVT.
An underpowered car with a five speed manual transmission is still an underpowered car. No thanks. With an outback one can have it with a 3.6 ltr motor. The Crosstrek can barely get out of its own way. You should study up on the Subaru CVT as found on the Outback. Things have changed in the last 10 years.
Yeah, though the less power there is the more important a manual is, takes it from a near 10 second to 60 car to 8 seconds. Just a second behind the 3.6 equipped Outback.
And I have driven the new Subaru CVTs when I was car shopping just a few months ago. They're still horrible.

I vehemently disagree with you.
Perhaps you feel that way because you're looking for or expecting a rocket but for a 4 cylinder, 5 passenger AWD wagon/crossover, it is more than adequately powered while still being surprisingly fuel efficient (25 city/33 highway mpg).
Phil is right, you're buying a station wagon not a sports car. I have a one year old outback and it has never failed me, merging onto the freeway, passing, hauling, I've always had plenty of power.
Towing capacity isn't huge buy it gets way better mpg than an suv and has a decent, although not great, amount of interior room for kids, dogs, whatever.
still though, the standard 2.0 rated at 148hp is just anemic, no two ways about it. Even the 160hp hybrid is weak. It would be neat if Subaru made put a 2.0T in it with about 200 hp.

They do, but it only comes in at 250hp. My tablet does not do links well. Check out the Forester 2.0 turbo.

The power is irrelevant but if not willing to go to a manual would far prefer a standard automatic to their CVT.
Though yes Subaru has been home to rocket wagons with the WRX wagon, Legacy GT Wagon, and Forrester XT that would put many sports cars to shame while still being the family hauler.

im talking about the Crosstrek. Plus, the new Forester turbo is a joke compared to what it used to be. Subaru neutered that thing.
