I started taking SAMe 7 days ago. 400 mg/day. Morning, empty stomach, wait 30 minutes until I eat.
I don't notice any improvement at all, nor in my mood or in my joint discomfort. I feel more tired and hopeless than usual.
I'm wondering if this actually works or its just another placebo. Do you guys have any experience with SAMe? I read such wonderful things, I even read scientific research on this. Pissed off isn't working for me. Regular SSRI's don't work either.
For one thing some supps can take weeks or even months to "kick in". Even my ibuprofen can take an hour to kick in...then I "might" get 4 hours of this bandaid relief.
There is no established ideal dose of SAM-e. For depression, many studies have used between 400-1,600 milligrams daily. For osteoarthritis, 600-1,200 milligrams daily of SAM-e divided into three doses is common. Ask your doctor for advice. Sometimes, the dose of SAM-e is increased gradually over a few weeks. This can help reduce side effects such as restlessness or anxiety.

I haven't tried SAM-e, but I have had success with 5-HTP. My husband tried 5-HTP but it made him feel too sleepy and lazy, even though it did decrease his anxiety.
The best thing I've found for joint pain is diclofenac...either applied to the painful joint as Voltaren gel, or tablets taken orally. The tablets work much better for me but my mom felt like they didn't help her arthritis at all. She uses the Voltaren gel. Diclofenac works much, much better than ibuprofen.
I guess diclofenac is a pharma drug. I ended up in the ER in the 80's from a pharma drug for OA. It was a stomach ulcer. I've refused celebrex too, cost is prohibitive for me but also recall the ulcer of past.
I tried it for attention... gave me too much energy, even after quartering the tablets... decided to stop and retry a lower dose another time.
