Going to post one more pic from my collection, so I can ask what I was seeing looking south from the hilltop reservoir - is that Onondaga Hill? If I had the money, I'd love to live in one of those homes on the top of that hill - imagine the views from way up there.
The trees are dense and tall and that usually gets in the way of really long-range views. If you want some great pics, go up to OCC (Onondaga Community College) and park in the visitors' parking... go up to the top floor in the technology building (all-glass, on the quad) and the waiting area by the elevators will give you that full view. It's stunning. You don't need a pass to get in the building, btw... you can just walk right in.
A picture of the hills south Route 20, on Cemetery Road, in Pompey. It seems impossible to capture all the hills that you can see *in person*, with a camera. This was around 10am and it was overcast so the hills all had some varying degree of fog in them, making the hills more individually visible...
Thank you and I can't wait. I've been working hard to save money for the move. So far everything is on track for a June 1st move. I'm praying that nothing get's in the way this time.
Still, the roads are clear, salted and the workers are continuing their job of putting up their new siding on a neighbor's house. lol - great work ethic!
And here comes the blindness... the sun is fully out and glaring off the snow so strongly that the inside of our home is positively GLOWING. I'd take a picture, if I knew it wouldn't blind white. lol
Thanks for those pics!!!! That's what I was hoping to see this winter. A big snow storm and the roads clear and people still working!!! Good job Syracuse!!!
Someone please post a video of the nightmare process of having to shovel all that snow. Or how about trying to get the car out of the driveway after the plows pushed all that snow in front of it?
We're just off the sidewalk part... nothing TO shovel. :P But for those who DO have sidewalks, the village has sidewalk plows. There are pics of those mini-plows in the Snowicane thread. lol
The only nightmarish part of shoveling, at least for us, is the heavy muck at the edge of the driveway. The rest is pushable... set your shovel on the ground and push the snow where you want it to go, in rows. The vast majority of our snow is fluffy lake effect- not heavy at all *unless* you wait to shovel and it has melted/packed down onto itself. THEN you'll be exerting more effort.
I really think that's the difference in what people from other parts of the country think of our snow and what *actually* happens here. Most areas haven't experienced lake effect snow like ours... they hear the number of inches and think of their heavy, wet snow. We don't often have that... we get fluffy inches. :P
