I am looking for recommendations for a great Bed & Breakfast in the Finger Lakes that is close to one of the wine trails. I am also interested in which Finger Lakes region people prefer when it comes to the wineries (Seneca, Cayuga, Keuka, etc).

I am doing some last minute Christmas shopping and my parents love the Finger Lakes. However, I am out of state and don't know much about them. My parents would prefer quaint and historic and close to a cluster of wineries. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Our favorite has always been Keuka Lake. It's smaller and the wineries seem, generally, more personal... we'd play on the grounds with their children and grandchildren of the owners, for example. Hammondsport is where I'd look for a B&B... it's at the southernmost tip of Keuka and convenient, for that reason, to drive to wineries on other lakes if there's anything else that they absolutely MUST see. And our favorite wineries are a drive north from Hammondsport, up the western side- Bully Hill, Swedish Hill and Dr. Konstantin Frank.

The locals can tell your parents where to go and what to do, if they need any direction... their livelihoods are often their result of tourists enjoying their stay.

I'd like to put a word in for Seneca Lake and it's wineries. The east side has many varied and wonderful options - Red Newt, Atwater Vineyards, Penguin Bay, Rasta Ranch, Hazlett, Tickle Hill (my favorite), Chateau Lafayette Renau, Elizabeth Valley, Silver Springs, Damiano, Hector Wine (brand new) and more that I just don't remember them all. There are many B&B along Route 414 and a bounty of them in Watkins Glen. I would suggest checking on several wineries to see what their specialties are and try to match them with your parents tastes. As of today - 12/20/10 - we still have no snow to speak of and the road are clear and dry. Great travel weather. May I suggest you visit Atwatervineyards.com - go to their "about us" tab and check out their webcam. Beautiful views!
here is a site that lists the wineries, lodging and events on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail

bergs76,

There are SO MANY very nice Bed & Breakfast Places in the Finger Lakes that it's really difficult to select just one favorite place. I'd suggest that you look at some of the websites (below) for the numerous B & B's and you will see exterior and interior photos of each individual B & B. Maybe that would help you decide which one you'd like to select for your parents.

FINGER LAKES BED & BREAKFAST ASSOCIATION MEMBERS >>click on the following link line and then click on the NAME of each B & B to visit the individual B & B's website and see photos of their facility.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you visit New York State sometime, besure to travel around the Finger Lakes; late Spring, all Summer, and early Autumn are especially enjoyable. And the two big cities of Syracuse and Rochester are nearby.

We recently stayed at New Vines B&B on Seneca Lake. It was a great experience, right on the wine trail and the innkeepers, Dani & Todd, are super people. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend it!
